{Travel}Austin, Texas - Part 3

During the later part of the week, we had a full day to explore Austin on our own.

Our first stop was the Bullock Texas State Museum.

Texas' symbol is the five pointed star and they love to put it on everything. I'm all about that!

Each level of the museum immerses you in Texas' rich history.

One of my favorite exhibits was Comanche Motion by Eric Tippeconnic.

His paintings really drew me in.

This sign perfectly describes his work, bold and vibrantly alive!

I got to make my own bead design out of these tiles, it was so calming and satisfying.

This one was my favorite but they didn't have a copy of it in the museum store.

The floor of the entry depicted the story of Texas, pretty awesome from up above.

Some of the artifacts they had were pretty impressive, like this jacket from the Korean war. The designs were hand painted on the backs of them. So cool!

This statue used to sit atop the State Capitol Building and is called the Goddess of Liberty. She now overlooks the entire museum's three floors of exhibits.

After the Bullock Museum, we walked over to the Texas Capitol Building.

It's such a beautiful building and the grounds are park like.

We decided to wait for the next tour.

There were composite photos of the members.

I was wondering about the kids in the photos and our tour guide told us that they were honorary members and relatives of the House (or Senate) members.

He also took us to the extension space and we got this amazing view through the skylight.

I highly recommend both the museum and capitol building tour if you're ever in Austin.

We were packing a lot into our last day there and got ready to go out for the night.

We had dinner at Flower Child and it was a great choice!

We strolled around downtown for a little while and did some window shopping.

It was hopping for a Thursday night!

We wanted to check out Rainey Street for the live music and food trucks. We were too full for food trucks but they looked good.

We ended up at The Parlor Room. All of the bungalows along Rainey Street have been preserved and are now bars, restaurants or shops. The Parlor Room's claim to fame is that Stevie Ray Vaughn used to spend a lot of time in that house. There's a photo wall in his honor in one of the rooms.

It was so fun to grab a drink and sit outside and listen to a live band.

The next morning we had breakfast in the restaurant Caroline's which was on our hotel. This avo toast was yumm-o!

We took a long walk around town and soaked up our last morning in Austin.

It was a great trip but I'm always happy to go home too!

{Travel} Austin, Texas - Part 2

Austin is easy to walk around. Our hotel was in a good location to get to a lot of the local spots on foot. I crossed the 'bat bridge' in the morning to check out another part of town.

I like to take pictures of these plaques so I remember what I was looking at.

I think I was in the downtown area and this walkway led to their awesome public library.

I probably could have spent all day in its cool comfort and rooftop garden but I had more exploring to do.

This area definitely felt more urban and corporate.

I stopped for lunch at True Food Kitchen. I was excited to try my Ancient Grains Bowl (miso glazed sweet potato, turmeric, charred onion, snow peas, grilled portobello, avocado and hemp seed). Yum!

After lunch I strolled along that yellow bridge in the photo above. I came across this sculpture that said "we'd love a hug but please don't climb on the sculpture".

I walked along 2nd Street and found a real Modcloth location. That was pretty neat. It's a "fit" store so they have every size of each item available for you to try on and then they ship it to you. I wasn't in the trying on mood and I had also just gone on my EPIC Austin Trader Joe's visit so I needed to get back to the hotel for this.
