Anniversary Weekend:Beach, Books & Baseball

Our anniversary usually falls during Labor Day weekend so we have extra time to celebrate it.  We don't make a big deal out of it most years, it was usually a dinner out with the kids when they were younger and some years we'd try to get away for a night. This year we have a big trip planned (and a smaller one) so we kept close to home for a low key weekend.

We found ourselves alone (with no plans) on Saturday while College Girl was visiting a friend a local university so we headed to Stone Harbor, New Jersey to visit my mom.

 Mom's boyfriend (man friend?) has a house in Stone Harbor and they spend a lot of time down there. She's been wanting me to take some pics of them and it worked out to be the perfect day for it, even though it was cloudy. I like cloudy days over sunny days as a photographer! Here's a sneak peek. They showed us around the town and then we went back to their place for a nice visit.

They broke out this yummy wine they had discovered in Portugal(they are world travelers!)

 The next day I had a relaxing morning with coffee and some library books.  I love reading cookbooks but I was also captivated by Something In The Water by Catherine Steadman.

 We were invited to a Trenton Thunder game that weekend as well.  I haven't been to one in years and they are so much fun.

{Family} Wedding Weekend

We celebrated a special couple a few weeks ago.

 My mother in law got married and it was a beautiful day filled with family and friends.

All dressed up and ready to go!

They hired a photographer so I got to focus on the details.

 Always taking pics of flowers!

The wedding was held at the same place where Miss High School had her Vintage Glam Halloween at the Hollywood Tower Hotel Sweet 16 party.

More details...lots of pink. The favors were stemless wine glasses full of Kisses.

 It was a perfect June day for a wedding and the mansion was the perfect backdrop for it.

 I like getting the in between shots.  Miss High School made their floral crowns.

 This was one of my favorite shots.

I also love this one of the cousins.

The groom got to do the whole 'something borrowed' thing too...these are my husband's grandfather's cuff links (and the father of the bride).  Pretty special!

{Get Gifty} Picnic Marriage Survival Kit

I put together this picnic marriage survival kit as a wedding gift for some family friends.  I wanted to give them something practical and useful.  I knew they liked to visit parks and figured they'd need food to take along on their visits.

I found the original idea here and made my own version.  I couldn't find a cute picnic basket so I used a picnic cooler bag instead which is probably a lot more practical anyway.

 From there, I gathered items that I thought would be useful in a picnic basket (all found at Walmart).

 I printed up tags to tie in with each item.  I wanted it to be fun and whimsical too so I added bubbles and a frisbee to the other picnic pieces.

The items I included were:

a picnic blanket (cuddle up)

non breakable plates and utensils (serve each other)

ice pack (keep your cool)

bubbles(stay bubbly)

bug spray(keep the bugs away)

frisbee (play)

I bought some ribbon to tie the labels on with. I needed two spools total.

I packed it all up in the cooler bag and added a tag that said "Life Is a Picnic: Marriage Survival Kit". I used that as the gift tag too and wrote them a message on the back of it.

I thought it turned out really cute! I hope they get a lot of use out of it.

{Memories} Heirloom Wedding Quilt

This quilt was one of our most special wedding gifts.

It was a gift from my grandmother and made by her and the Ladies Benevolent Society she belonged to at her church.

I love the morning glory design that was made custom for us.  The other side is a small floral like the fabric in the flower in the right.

It even came with a matching morning glory pillow.

I haven't used it on our bed for awhile but I recently pulled it out to fold up and display in our living room.  I think it gets better with age (like us?).

I dug up the photo that my grandma sent me when the quilt was finished.  She's third from the right in red shirt.  The letter explained how they put the quilt together on the (then) 100 year old frame that had been willed to the church.   How cool is that?

I also have a card signed by all of the ladies!

Seeing this note in her handwriting brings back so many memories of her.  I really treasure it (time to start scrapping my old photos and mementos now!)

On the back of the note she summed up why she loved being a part of the quilting group, "Anyway, it's fun to do this kind of thing. You're being virtuous and doing good Christian labor and at the same time getting all caught up with the local news."
