Getting into the Holiday Spirit

We got into the holiday spirit by checking out a few festive spots. 

The first one was this darling store chock full of holiday decor and ambience.

There was a real wood burning stove in the corner of the store that was so toasty.

The grounds and other buildings were pretty too!

Another way I add some holiday fun to my life is by ordering my first festive warm drink. Peppermint mocha is my choice if I'm going for a sweet treat, but I enjoy plain old black coffee in a festive cup. The cold cups are cute as well.

We went to a Christmas Experience at a local restaurant that we had heard good things about.

I enjoyed my gingerbread martini.

The Christmas vibes were on point...

...and the food was delish!

I was feeling nostalgic and requested some Martha Stewart Christmas books from the library.

We got a new holiday comforter set from ALDI (yes, ALDI!) that we've been loving (and so has Willow!). I added our flannel sheets for peak coziness.

We tried out a new to us breakfast spot in town before heading out to do some holiday shopping.

Happening & Loving Lately

In no particular order, this is what's been happening/I've been loving lately.

I painted the inside of our front door in the same color as our kitchen island, Sea Cliff Heights by Benjamin Moore. It really brightens up this little spot

I didn't love this, but we had our heating and a/c systems replaced.  This was our disgusting, old furnace so it was badly needed.

We also replaced our old fence.  It looks pretty bad when it's all stacked up like this.

The new one is a major improvement.

We celebrated my birthday with the girls at a local-ish restaurant. They took the ferry over from NYC for the first time and loved it.

One of the neighboring towns was the location for filming Netflix's The Four Seasons-season 2.    This is Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani filming a scene.

It was so cool to see it being shot and to see all of the equipment, people, etc.

These guys were the stand-ins for the above actors. 

The day after my birthday dinner we were expecting a pretty bad storm. We got a lot of wind and some rain.

My mother in law made me this beautiful and intricate bouquet of money roses for my birthday.

Speaking of roses, we had some late blooming knockout roses in the garden that I cut and brought inside.

Adding a little fall decor to the island.

This house had the coolest silhouettes in their windows for Halloween. It was incredible! 

City Girl #2 and I saw Wicked For Good last night and I can't stop thinking about it!

Birthday Celebrating in NYC

 City Girl #2 and I had an early birthday celebration this year in NYC.

She wanted to see Jinx Monsoon in Oh Mary so we got tickets for a September show.  We went last year for her birthday as well but that was with the original Mary Todd Lincoln - the brilliant Cole Escola.  CG #2 also saw Betty Gilpin as the lead back in March.  What can I say, we love the show!

We met up for dinner with the girls first at The Terrace and Outdoor Gardens. The location is so pretty.

It was definitely photo shoot worthy!

I got a photo of my lovelies out on the terrace.

The food was really good and we shared everything.

This was a fancy s'mores dessert. The presentation was incredible.

Since both of our birthdays are in October and only 3 days apart, we each got a little cake with a candle.

Jinx was amazing as Mrs. Lincoln, each actor adds their own personal touch to the role.  I'm so glad they keep extending the show!

Costco Hydrangeas & Holiday Birthday Party

 Did you know you can order bulk flowers from Costco?  I didn't know about them until I saw some Tiktoks about them.

We were hosting a birthday party for Mr. Click so I thought it was a good time to try them out.  You can pick your delivery date so I picked a date a few days before I needed them (just in case they weren't on time).  They arrived on that day looking like this-- a little smushed together but ok.

I followed the advice I also found on Tiktok for the biggest, longest lasting blooms. I immediately put them in a tub of cool water for an hour.  This helped them perk up a lot. 

I then shook off the excess water, cut the stems on a diagonal and dipped them in alum powder  (found it in the spice aisle at the supermarket) before putting them in a big bucket of water until I was ready to arrange them.

I got so many bouquets and arrangements out of 2 dozen stems.  I added some flags since we were celebrating the birthday over 4th of July weekend.

On the day of the party I had both indoor and outdoor arrangements.

I made my first balloon arch/swag from Dollar Tree balloons and balloon tape. I was pretty proud of it!

We set up the food inside. The menu was a baked potato bar with toppings, New England clam chowder and veggie chili.  City Girl #1 also made our  favorite Vegan Kale Caesar Salad.

We set up some snacks outside on the tables and used our wedding cocktail napkins as basket liners.

City Girl #2 made the birthday boy's favorite White Chocolate Chip Fruit Tart.  He always asks for this instead of a birthday  cake.

The leftover summer fruit made a delicious fruit salad too.

We also made a batch of "slutty brownies" (chocolate chip cookie dough layered under Oreos and brownie mix).   So good!

The hydrangeas still looked great a few days later and I made one big bouquet of what was left and gave them to my neighbor because we were leaving for vacation.  She loved them!
