Friday Phone Dump - Week 39

We spent the day at the apple orchard and then headed over to the scarecrow festival.
We picked some Melrose and Jonagold.
Didn't get any of these pumpkins but they were cute.

Nothing like a wagon ride to the apple orchard to put you in a fall mood.

The flowers at the farm were beautiful.
It was sort of overcast and that made the other colors really pop.

I didn't take many pictures at the scarecrow festival (because I was enjoying a cappuccino).
This was Pumpkin Pan & Wendy.
Earlier in the week we got the chimney cleaned.
and I went to book club for 50 Shades of Grey.
Wasn't our hostess super creative?
Tonight I'm going to make homemade applesauce and light our first fire in the (freshly cleaned) fireplace.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

First Fall (and Christms) Finds

Happy Friday!!

On our way home from visiting our daughter at college we stopped at a fun store and I found my first fall finds of the season.  I restrained myself since I hadn't gotten out my existing decorations and tend to forget what I already have.
I also found this Christmas subway art that I cannot wait to put up on my red and white Christmas mantel this year!
But first to the fall goodies....
I picked up this APPLE bushel basket and little wooden pumpkin for fall..that's it. I promise.
The pumpkin is hanging in the powder room at the moment.
The bushel basket has some dried hydrangeas in it on the front porch.
I'll be back next week with more fall decor.
Are you all decorated for fall?

{Recipe}Hungry Girl's Creamy Carrot Soup

I made this soup for my daughter's Grey & Yellow Themed 18th Birthday back in February.  Luckily the food didn't have to match the theme (except some of the desserts).
With the weather cooling off, my youngest was requesting that I make it again.
She's so spoiled now that she's an "only child".
Of course I made it for her.  It sounded good to me too.  The original recipe can be found here.  I  "veganized" it by swapping veggie broth for chicken broth.
4 cups chopped carrots(I used baby carrots and cut them up)
1 large onion, chopped (used red onion)
1 medium potato, peeled and cubed
2 cups of vegetable broth (I use Better Than Buillion)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper (I added more to give it more bite)
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup Unsweetened Original Almond Breeze almond milk
Bring a large non stick pot to medium heat and add the carrots, onions and potato.  Cook and stir until tender, about 10 minutes).
Add broth and seasonings and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down and let simmer until veggies are soft. This took about 20-30 minutes for me.
If you don't have an immersion blender remove the pot from the heat and let cool slightly. Once cooled, pour into a blender and add the almond milk. Puree until smooth.

If you do have an immersion blender, puree the vegetables until smooth.  This was FUN!
Add the almond milk and continue pureeing until you reach your desired consistency.

This looked about right to me.  This soup is sweet, savory and delicious!
It thickens up if you leave it in the fridge and gets even better.
I added a few carrot curls for crunch and had this for lunch (I'm such a poet!) today.
The stats on this soup are great too.
PER SERVING (1/4th of recipe, about 1 1/4 cups): 125 calories, 1.25g fat, 582mg sodium, 26.5g carbs, 5.5g fiber, 8g sugars, 4g protein.

A Pocket Full of Projects

The projects around here have been on the small side lately but just as important.  A few little things add up to a lot!

#1)Let's Keep the Paper Off Of The Floor
We replaced the toilet paper holder in the girls' bathroom.  The old one (which wasn't that old) kept dipping down and the paper would fall off.  Aggravating!

Enter this sturdy looking Glendale brushed nickel holder from Lowes.
It covered the holes from the previous holder and so far so good....
I also updated the switch plates with a new look.

#2) Re-Magnetizing the Chalkboard Wall
My daughter's magnetic chalkboard wall wasn't holding up as well as it should (probably because I did the paint job).  She added another coat of magnetic chalkboard paint and POW!!
Much better!

#3) Butterflies Are Free to Fly
We also finally got around to hanging up these pretty butterflies in her room (a Christmas gift from her sister).  We used a small clear Command hook on the ceiling and they can now flutter away.

#4) New Life for an Old Lamp
She found this bright thrifted Ikea lamp at Goodwill over the summer.
We were looking for a new bedside lamp but when she saw this one, she knew her desk could use some more task lighting and was smitten.
I love how it pops agains the aqua walls.
To see more of her room, click here.
How about you? Have you been up to any little (or big) projects lately?

End of Summer Get Together

The tween(can't call her that much longer!) hosted a few friends for an end of summer get together before school started.
She planned the menu of light fare: popcorn and fruit with Passion iced tea and Izze drinks.
As well as these scrumptious coconut cupcakes.
They were really the stars of the party.
The recipe is from Ina Garten,The Barefoot Contessa.
You can find it here.
It was my our idea to toast the coconut for the cupcake tops.
Don'tcha like their snazzy zebra cupcake liners?
She's become quite the cupcake baker!
The girls were coming over to hang out, eat and enjoy the deck and hot tub.
She set the table up outside.
I also thought they would hang out around the fire pit and roast marshmallows and I had a mason jar/glow light project I wanted to try with them but we never got to it.
Another time...

I had to be sneaky to grab a few shots of the party.
But it looked like they were having fun!
