{Travel} Riviera Maya Trip- Day 1

We booked a last minute trip to Mexico in August after realizing summer was almost over and we hadn't been on a real vacation in years. It was my first time on a plane since (dreamy!) Italy in 2019. 

We looked at a couple of different destinations and knew the trip had to: 
1)fit within a certain week 
2)be a short-ish flight from Philly
3)be somewhere we hadn't been to and were excited to visit

A tropical, all inclusive vacation to Mexico seemed like the perfect fit!

This is how it looked when we left Philadelphia.

Getting on the plane (it still didn't feel real). Yes, we packed in carry-ons again!

The flight to Cancun was just under four hours and before we knew it, we were looking out the window at this!

We exited into the chaotic Cancun airport and looked for our transfer service to the hotel.  Walking outside, we were hit with a wallop of HOT Mexican air but we were excited to be there.

They upgraded our car to the hotel and we did not mind.

Stepping into the cool, fragrant lobby of the El Dorado Royale Resort was so welcoming.   While we were checking in, a waiter came by and asked if we wanted margaritas. Yes, please!  Our room wasn't quite ready so the hotel staff suggested we go have lunch at one of the many restaurants on the resort property.

We had lunch here at La Isla and got our first tacos, chips and pico de gallo.

After lunch we were taken to our room in a fun golf cart ride and got a quick tour of the resort.

We had a lovely dinner at D'Italia Villas (I froze in the a/c!) that night.

The restaurant was very accommodating when I asked for no dairy and brought me this gorgeous fruit plate for dessert.

Walking through the resort at night was lovely.  We were excited to start our first full day in Mexico!

Our Kitty Family Has Grown By Three Paws - Meet Toki

 We welcomed a new kitten into our extended cat family and we are all smitten with her. 

Meet Toki!

City Girl 2 and her boyfriend adopted this sweet baby girl a few weeks ago.

Isn't she gorgeous? She's 8 months old and lost one of her legs in an accident but we don't think she knows.  Nothing stops this little stinker! She is so quick and agile!

Who needs four legs when you're this cute? She's settling into city life quite well and we're all obsessed with her!

{Travel} Weekend & Gig in Virginia

Mr. Click had a gig with his Virginia band last month and we made a one night weekend getaway out of it. 

We got there for sound check and I enjoyed my book while they were setting up.

I loved the summer concert series poster.

We love the pretzels at this place...sooo good!  It was the perfect night for an outdoor gig.

We always try and get a walk in the morning and we've enjoyed exploring the W & OD trails.

We tried a new (to us) place for breakfast.  I'm glad we put our name on the virtual waiting list before we got there.  It was busy!

I got the chia coconut power bowl with toast.  It was tasty and so filling.

We stopped at Farmer John's in Leesburg on the way home. Their "Best Corn in 3 States" sign caught our attention so we had to try some.

Their produce was beautiful!

I had to send my girls this photo because I detest beets!  Blech! I wish I liked them!

We stocked up on fresh produce and took our time getting home.  It was a  fun weekend away!  So, do you like beets?

{Shopping} Some Fall Finds At Trader Joe's

I know it's not quite fall yet but if you're in Trader Joe's, you might think it is.  Bring on the fall products!

1)Cinnamon Roll Blondie Mix-I heard really good things about this so I grabbed one to make for a special occasion.

2)Organic Vanilla Bean Paste-I'm sure this will come in handy with holiday baking.

3)Vanilla Pumpkin and Honey crisp Apple Candles-love them!

4)Apple Cider Fruit Spread-this is so good! There are chunks of apple in it and the flavor is spot on.

5)Pulled Jackfruit In Smoky BBQ Sauce-I can't wait to try this!

I actually forgot about all of three of these until I was doing this post!

6)Gluten Free Pizza Crusts-I've heard good things about these cauliflower pizza crusts. They are supposed to be easier to prepare and much better tasting than the previous cauliflower crusts they carried.

7)Vegan Spinach & Cashew Ravioli-these sound amazing!

8)Organic Veggie Bites-veggie tater tots with sunflower seeds.

9) Instant Ramen Soup-Mr. Click and I each picked one of the Ramen soups. I don't think we've tried them before.

10)Boursin Dairy Free Cheese-this stuff is SO good and at a great price point at TJ's.

11)Organic Creamy Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative Pumpkin Spice- I didn't love this. The flavor is good but the yogurt was very runny. 
12) Mediterranean Style Hummus-I haven't bought this one in a long time. It's an oldie but goodie!

{Field Trip} A Sunday in Philly- Lunch, Cats & Betsy Ross House

 We had an impromptu day in Philly last month. We dropped "the kids" (City Girl 2 and her bf) off at a music festival and decided to spend a little time enjoying the city.

Our first stop was Cuba Libre in Old City for lunch (and a pineapple mojito for me).

We started with the chips and assorted dips appetizer.

I had the black bean soup and it was delish!

After lunch we headed out to just walk around and ended up at Betsy Ross House.

We didn't go inside but walked around the courtyard and gift shop.

There were a few plaques and signs to read and of course a flag to pose with.

Of course I had to get a photo of this cat fountain but there was no plaque on it so I asked in the gift shop about it.  It was just donated to the site, the cats didn't have anything to do with Betsy Ross.

We walked some more and I had to stop and admire this late summer garden.  We were passing The Book Trader book store and went inside this time.

I was on a search for Mr. Pickles, their cat. He was upstairs in a very warm section of the store snoozing away! He was not bothered by anything going on around him.  What a cutie!
