{Travel} European Vacation:Wrapping up London

Our last full day in London happened to be New Year's Eve.

We had breakfast in the hotel's executive lounge (love that perk!) and took the tube to the Tower of London.

This place was truly impressive!

We even got to see more sunshine!

There was a lot to see as you toured the different parts of the tower.

We definitely wanted to get a look at the Crown Jewels!

The line wasn't too bad since we were there fairly early. They don't allow you to take photos once you enter the building. Inside is room after room of priceless artifacts until you get to the very last room where the sparkly of the sparkliest reside.

The security was tight.

We toured the grounds and structures...

and read about lots of torture that went on there.

It's pretty neat because the tower is right in the center of the modern city.

The Tower Bridge can be seen from the grounds and we walked over to get a better look.

It looks closer than it was.

We had lunch at The Liberty Bounds which had it's own interesting history.

More fish & chips (the real kind this time!)

All Hallows By The Tower church (the oldest church in the city of London) was right across the street from the pub.

A quick stop at Starbucks and a photo op!

We went back to the hotel to relax and pack. We had an early-ish flight home the next day.We also wanted to experience Happy Hour in the executive lounge for once (always missed it).

By the time we did that, we were all too tired to go out to dinner so room service it was! The big fireworks show by the London Eye was a ticketed event and they strongly discouraged you from even getting close to the action. We could actually see some of those fireworks from our room at midnight.

There were plenty of other fireworks going off from the street below us. We had a great view of them!

Flying home the next day!

I couldn't wait to get home. I loved our trip so much but I was ready to be home and celebrate the holidays with friends and family.

{Travel} European Vacation - Night 9 London

After spending the gorgeous (sunny!) day sightseeing some of London's most famous landmarks, we had evening plans to do more of the same.

We purchased tickets for The London Eye on line and printed them out at the hotel.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel once we entered our glass capsule with about twenty other people. There was plenty of room to walk around and see the views from every side.

The wheel moves so slowly that you barely feel it moving (no motion sickness for me!)

Pretty soon you forget that you're suspended in the air in a glass capsule and you just enjoy the views.

It was truly spectacular to get an overhead night time view of the city (I'm sure daytime is lovely too).

There were interactive maps in the capsule and you could click on a building to see what it was.

The ride was over way too quickly (it's about 35 minutes long).

We had dinner reservations in Soho and some time to kill so we walked (about 15-20 minutes away on foot).

College Girl had found a vegetarian pub in London that served vegan "to-fush and chips and we had to try it! Coach & Horses looks like a traditional pub when you step inside and you have to go through the kitchen to get upstairs to the restaurant. By day it's a tea house and at night it serves vegetarian pub fare.

Here's her vegan fish chips, complete with peas and tartar sauce.

We also ordered a veggie burger with these amazing onion rings...

and the 'rude' pie....all of it was delicious including the hot coconut rice pudding that was split for dessert. This place was a great find and so worth it!
