{Travel} Fun Weekend in Boston

We were able to visit College Girl in Boston in early June. Things were opening back up and it felt pretty much back to normal in the city.
We started with a trip to the Copley Square Farmer's Market on Friday after she finished working (she's currently on co-op).
It's a smaller market but we found some unique vendors and picked up some spices and a candle.
The hotel bar was open! We celebrated with a little bubbly.
We had a sunset cruise booked for the evening. It is so nice to be able to do touristy things again!
It was a great way to see the city and in a way we hadn't before.
The sunset did not disapoint!
It was a gorgeous evening.

We had a late (10pm!) dinner at Deck 12 on top of the Yotel Hotel. The lobby and hotel theming was pretty interesting.
Up early with my coffee and this view.
This morning we took the "T" to the Boston Public Market.  That is the place to buy produce!  Inside we got bagels from Levend.
We walked around town and really soaked in the beautiful weather.
I stopped to take so many flower pics!
We discovered the new (to us) cafe Pressed and got cappuccinos.  We can't wait to try their food.
We had a delicious  dinner in the North End at Tresca.
It was fun to explore the North End. We had to get some cannolis to take back with us too.
We met up in the morning and walked over to Cambridge.

Then had an awesome  breakfast at Veggie  Galaxy--one of our favorite places! It was the perfect way to end our stay in Boston.

A Quick Dollar Tree Haul

This was one of those times when I ran into Dollar Tree for one or two things and came out with a whole basket full.
  • I've seen the Outrageous Quick 1- Minute Oats for much more at  other  stores. I prefer old  fashioned oats for my oatmeal but I've used these in energy balls and other recipes.
  • The Veggie Straws went on a road trip with us.
  • The  Minute Beans and Rice combo was surprisingly good!
  • The pet waste bags come in  handy and  I always  pick them up if I find them.
  • I went in for the light bulbs for my salt  lamp.  They had  been out  of stock  for  awhile  so I was happy to find them.
  • I needed some new microfiber cleaning cloths and this one has good reviews.
  • I picked up some off brand Magic Erasers and Swiffer sheets for  College   Girl.

  • In the health and beauty section I found some Power Stick Style Cream for Mr. Click to try. It retails for around $5 at Walmart.
  • I also  picked up some back up toothpaste and a hand soap.  The pear scent is nice and light.
  • With 4th of July coming up I wanted to have some sparklers on hand. They are fun for photoshoots too!
Have you found any good Dollar Tree items lately?

{Recipe} Easy Homemade English Muffins

Freshly made English muffins are such a treat and easier than you think to make.
Ingredients:
{Basic Dough}
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp active dry yeast
3/4 cup lukewarm water, divided
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp olive oil
***
1 TBS fine cornmeal

To make:
  • Place flour in large mixing bowl, make a well in the middle and add yeast mixed with 1/4 cup water. Let rest for about 10 minutes. If yeast bubbles you know it's working.
  • Add salt, oil and remaining 1/2 cup water and combine all ingredients (except cornmeal) with a large spoon. Knead to form dough.
  • Cover bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let sit in a warm spot for 1 1/2- 2 hours until dough doubles in size. (I turn my oven on warm for a few minutes then turn it off and put the bowl in the oven to let it rise).
  • Once dough has doubled in size, divide into 8 equal pieces and form into balls.
  • Sprinkle cornmeal on parchment paper, place dough on top and press down, the flip and press  again.
  • Heat a griddle or skillet on  low-to-medium and add English muffins. (Don't place too close together or they could stick to each other).
  • Cook on each side about 5-10 minutes, adjusting heat as needed, until brown on the outside and cooked through.
  • Use a fork to split them open, then toast to your desired crispness and perfection.
Enjoy with your favorite spread and/or butter. So good!  Store cooled muffins in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge. Can be frozen too!

{DIY}Easiest Ever Dollar Tree/Ikea Hack

This has to be the easiest hack ever

Remember these vases from this Dollar Tree haul that I was planning a DIY for?  Well here it is.  All I needed were the bamboo coasters from Ikea to complete it.
The coasters fit perfectly on top of the vases.
I've updated my cotton swab and cotton ball  containers and I love them! I'm sure there are lots of other uses for these chic vessels.  What would you store in them?

{Shopping} Trader Joe's - The Hits Keep Coming

I can't keep up with all of the new goodies at Trader  Joe's recently, but I sure have fun trying!

Oh yum to this creamy vegan tzatziki dip!  Great with veggies, falafel and makes a great  salad dressing too.
This sauce isn't  new but we haven't bought it in awhile.  This is so good on burgers and pretty much anything that needs a little kick.
This chickpea salad is perfectly spiced and the pickled veggies on top are crunchy and delicious.  I saw someone putting on a hotdog and that was a great combo!
TJ's keeps improving their vegan ice cream formula.  One of these  bon bons is a great little desseert.
This was hard to find and now I know why! I wasn't sure I'd like the tapioca pearls but they added a nice texture.
I gave these a try and they were ok but there are better  brands of vegan cheese  out there.  Come on, TJ's!
I don't think this is new but I haven't bought this before (that I recall). I like having cold brew in the summer.

Here's another new winner! These  remind of the fudge-icles of my childhood,

I never miss a chance to gets some TJ's candles. I am  keeping these in  my travel bag for hotel rooms.  They are the perfect travel candle.
These were not what I expected but still tasty. They have a strong onion flavor along with the other spices.
This was such a score because the new Spindrift Spiked is only available in New England and Southern California. I found it in Boston.
I've only tried the pineapple so far and it tasted like bubbly fresh squeezed pineapple juice. #dangerous

{The Abode} Annual Porch Refresh

Every spring we need to clean up the front porch.
It gets so dirty and beat up over the winter.
This is how we started out.
The siding and the concrete were quite dirty.
This year we purchased a new portable pressure washer to help with the  job.
It does make the job a lot easier.
It doesn't hurt to have some help either.
I picked up a new outdoor rug from Costco.
I also added a fern to the planter and a few flowers in pots.
I love when it's all spiffy!
