{Shopping} Trader Joe's Haul-Old Favorites & New Items

It's pretty obvious that I love Trader Joe's!   I like checking out the new products but always pick up some old favorites too.

This was a new pasta that looked interesting. I love the shape of it for sauces.
Speaking of sauces, this new one looks so summery.  I've been adding some dairy back and we tried this one. The lemon is dominant for sure.

I love picking up rice at TJ's, they usually have a good selection.
This bread is a no brainer! Yes, please.
This product looks interesting...just add water and use it anywhere you'd use ground beef.  I haven't tried it yet but I'm hopeful.

These are so good (you can see half the package is gone). Perfect afternoon treat with a cup of tea.
I've heard good things about these noodles!
I usually get the teeny tiny avocados but I grabbed this 4-count bag. I'm (im)patiently waiting for them to ripen....

...for some avocado toast on this sourdough bread. This is my favorite sourdough!

We got a recommendation for this red blend, it's tasty and at a great price point ($7.99)
I can't wait to try this soup. It sounds so good!
This is a staple that I keep in the freezer.  We only get the garlic and herb pizza dough.
Another staple that I keep in the fridge. It's my favorite beef substitute.
More staples for quick meals.
I was happy to see the Supergoop sunscreen dupe is back. I bought 2 to stock up.

I love TJ's tea. These are my favorites.  What have you found at TJ's lately?

Dinners Lately

I've been trying to use up what we have in the fridge, freezer and pantry and here's what I've been making for dinner.

I had a lot of corn tortillas and used them up in this yummy soup recipe. I added red lentils for an extra protein kick.

There was a pie crust in the freezer so I made a veggie pot pie.

This was our Valentine's dinner. ❤️

I could eat potatoes any which way but I hadn't made my fries in awhile. They are so good. I can have them as my main with a salad and a side of veggies.

I had an open box of jumbo shells in the pantry so I made some stuffed shells. I switched out the cauliflower ricotta for a tofu ricotta.  Use what you have!
I like keeping a bag of frozen butternut squash in the freezer.  It makes a super quick and easy mac & cheez.

These are a staple around here. I always seem to have bell peppers, onions and chickpeas on hand. Such an easy dinner!

I was craving this lentil loaf and I made it the other night with cauliflower mashed faux-tatoes. I love it cold in a sandwich too.

What's been your go-to dinner lately?

Cucumber (Chickpea) Tuna Sushi

Here's a fun way to get your veggies.  It makes a great snack too.

I was inspired by this recipe but made it my own with my Chickpea Tuna recipe. Have you checked out my Recipe Index lately?  There are 200+ recipes!
Ok, back to the sushi rolls.  I used an apple corer to remove the seeds from a cucumber.
That does a pretty good job but I had to use a knife to remove some as well.
After the cucumbers have been de-seeded.  Turn them on their cut sides and let them drain on a paper towel for about 15 minutes.
Stuff them with your favorite tuna salad.  It's best to add a little at a time and pack down into the cucumber.
Cut the cucumber in slices and enjoy!
They are little hard to eat with chopsticks but good for the photo.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday and Happy March (how many days till Spring?!).  Here's what I've been loving lately.

These Target Smartly toothbrushes.  I picked them up in white and they go so well with our other accessories.   They also come in understated pink and driftwood.

Superbowl Sunday found us burning off nerves and energy in Lambertville, NJ. It was a festive day with lots of "Go Birds" being shared.

We had a long walk and a lovely breakfast at a new-to-us place. Yum!

I found a photo of this little Eagles fan (City Girl!).  So cute. Our Eagles didn't win and what a game and season it was!
I finally got to try the Vegan Crunch Salad from Chopt.  It's got a kick to it but it's so good and a generous serving.
How am I supposed to do yoga with this cute helper on my mat?
I am trying some new foundation from Tarte. So far, I like it.
On one of my walks I saw a sign of spring on the horizon, these pretty snow drops.

We also got our first measurable snow this week. It didn't stick around.
I ordered these blouse collar dickies  and I'm loving them under sweaters and sweatshirts.  They come in a 2 pack and I got the black/white combo.

We upgraded our coffee table. I had been stalking this Beverly Rattan table for months and it finally went on clearance.   I love it so much!!

Yep, we are officially old folks! I got one of these pill caddies for our vitamins and it makes taking them every day so easy (and kind of fun with the flip top button!) We're much more consistent with them too. I fill it up once a week which also is a time saver.

Once Dry January ended, we were able to go on this Groupon date wine tasting.

In case you missed my earlier post, this has been a life (and candle) saver!

Some shows we've been watching and enjoying....

The Last Of Us-I wasn't sure I'd like this one but now I'm hooked! It's based on a video game but you don't need to know anything about the game to get into it.

Not Dead Yet-This one is so cute and has a lot of touching moments, a great cast and lots of laughs.

Shrinking-we just started this one and we love it!

Phew, that was long! What have you been loving lately?

{DIY} How to Fix a Tunneled Jar Candle

Has this ever happened to you? Your favorite jar candle's wick burns down but you're still left with a lot of wax on the sides of the jar?  You can stop the tunnel effect if you catch it early enough but I didn't notice it was happening until it was too late.

Of course it was a spendy Anthropologie candle and I wanted to figure out if I could save it.  I used this post for reference and it was so helpful. I wasn't sure it would work for me but I gave it a go.
1)Add about 2 inches of water to a pan with a steamer.  When the water is boiling, add the steamer insert.  Place candle in steamer.
2) While the wax is melting, gather your supplies. I had some old skewers that I broke in half, some popsicle sticks(wasn't sure what I would need) and luckily I found some wicks from CG2's candle making days.    If you don't have wicks, you can use other household items to make a wick. You can also order a candle kit here.  A paper plate, plastic knife and fork are also useful to have.
3) Keep on eye on the candle as it melts.  It should take about 15 minutes to fully melt.
4) You can use a plastic knife to loosen the wax on the sides of the jar. Be careful as it can splash out. Hot wax!

5) Remove the old wick. I found a plastic fork worked best for this.  When the wax is fully melted. Turn off the heat.

6) Now it's time to add the wicks.  I found the skewers worked best for this. Wrap the end of the wick around the skewer and gently place the wick into the hot wax. Try and position the wick where you want it.  I pressed the metal wick bottom down with a plastic knife.  I decided to make my candle a 4-wick.
7) Once your wicks are in place. Leave the jar in the steamer (with heat off) until it cools for approximately 2 hours. Then place in the refrigerator for an hour.

8) Remove the skewers and trim the wicks to 1/4 inch.  I used my cat nail clippers but cuticle scissors were suggested.

9) Light the candle (my wick placement is a little wonky but it works).
10) I love that it's now a 4 wick candle and I've doubled the life of this jar candle.
11) I've been enjoying it so much and still have lots of burn time left!
