{The Abode} Deck Makeover (again)

Our deck has been through a few changes over the years.

   This is a photo from our Deck Refresh last year when we added some new accessories like an umbrella with solar lights and a fancy new floor mat (both are holding up well!).  We also got my beloved Garden Stool in a previous year.

There's even a post about getting the cushions recovered.  It's a wonderful outdoor space for us but it requires maintenance.

This time we hired professionals for the job.

We also got deck paint instead of stain and it took a little getting used to the lighter color.

You can see the difference on the supporting posts in this photo.

The deck really stands out now and draws your eye outside.  

It sure looks and feels and lot fresher.

We finally got to enjoy it and have a few get togethers out there (my Ikea solar lanterns have been working like a charm!).

{Recipe} Buzzed Cherry Bombs

I made these spiked cherries for 4th of July.

{original recipe here}

 I thought they'd be fun treat to have while watching our hometown parade..a little sweet with a bit of a kick.  They only require a few ingredients.

Ingredients:
Maraschino cherries with stems, 1 jar makes about 20
Vanilla vodka (or any flavor you like)
White chocolate for dipping, 1 cup
Blue sprinkles

 Start by pouring the cherry juice out of the jar. I poured mine into another jar to make a non alcoholic version along with my vodka soaked version. Take out as many cherries as you want for the non alcoholic version if you are making them and add to jar of cherry juice.
For the spiked variety:
Add vanilla vodka to jar of cherries, put lid back on and refrigerate overnight.
For the kid friendly variety:
Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract to cherry juice/cherries and refrigerate overnight.

 When you're ready to assemble, take the cherries out of the liquid and dry them off a bit. Dip in white chocolate and sprinkles.

 Place on a wax paper lined tray to firm up. I put mine in the fridge and kept them there until I was ready to serve them.

 The red, white and blue combo was great for the 4th of July and other summer holidays but I could see using different colored sprinkles to go with whatever theme you choose.

 You could also use different colored chocolate or dark chocolate.

The kid friendly version of the cherries were popular with this guy (at least the sprinkles were).

 I think they are so darn cute.

They were tasty too!

This table is so great from Vintage, Paint & More. It is summer, fun and bright! The color combo of teal and green makes this table stand out and is stunning!        

Scavenger Chic upcycled fruit crates into ottomans. Where can I find some crates to redo? This is such a great idea and done so well. I love the look of the rustic crate with the light and delicate fabric. Perfection!

Sharon @ I'm Sharon With You revealed this gorgeous Buffet Transformation. Amazing!!

I'm Sharon With You shared a gorgeous update of a buffet that she has had in her garage for a couple of years! This piece was originally purchased for $35! It looks just stunning in her kitchen.

The girls over at Homemade Interest caught Laura's eye (again) with this upcycled tire project.

Check out these cute watermelon pops from the Lazy Gastronome.  This would be fun and easy to make for a bbq or afternoon snack when parents are looking at the clock asking, "Is this playgroup done yet?"

Crystal and Company shared a round up of creative ways to organize your car while traveling. Great advice for all those summer car trips.
