Spice Haul from Penzeys

I treated myself to an order from Penzeys spices and I've been loving all of it!  

I was having trouble finding dried chives and that started my order. I wanted  to try some of the blends too. I've received  Penzeys spices in a gift box before but this was the first time I did my own  order.

• Taco Seasoning-I don't usually buy taco seasoning but I thought it would be nice to have some on hand when I'm feeling lazy. There's cocoa powder and allspice in this one!
• Pie Spice-I've been putting this on my oatmeal and it's good  on peanut butter toast.  I'm sure it will be great in pies and  crisps too!
• Baking  Spice- This one is also  good in oatmeal.  They recommend adding it to box cake mixes,  pancakes  and brownies.
• Lemon Peel- Good for muffins and cookies but I also throw it into savory dishes for some brightness.
• Green Goddess and Buttermilk-These both can be rehydrated with water  and then added to sour cream and/or mayo to make a dressing or dip. I made  my Sunflower Seed Ranch with the Buttermilk blend and it's so good!
• Chicago Steak-I don't eat steak but this blend is great on roasted veggies and  potatoes.
• Bay Leaves-I go through a lot of bay leaves so I got a big bag of them to refill our  jar.
• Chives-I also got a refill bag of chives so I won't run out anytime soon.

They also included a hug coin in a decorated  envelope.    

They seem like a great company and their spices are wonderful!

Anniversary Beach Day

We decided to hit the beach for our anniversary this year.

Last year we went to Italy (see our trip here), this year Jersey baby!

I got some beautiful flowers from the hubs.

Got my "beach uniform" on for the drive.

It was so empty at the beach, we basically had it to ourselves.

A weekday after Labor Day and the weather was perfect.

A beach day wouldn't be complete without my favorite beach coffee.

This was fascinating and a quick series to watch!

The Politician Season 2

We loved Season 1 of this dark comedy and Season 2 is great as well!

This is an oldie but I started rewatching it and it's still SO good.

Our New Addition - Meet Apollo

 We have a new member of our family!

City Girl adopted a kitten and we're all smitten.  His name is Apollo and we're obsessed with his tiny-ness!

  He loves exploring...

and playing with his favorite snake toy.

He also loves his human.

He's so adorable!

We were so lucky to get a little time with him before they moved back to Brooklyn.

We're looking forward to lots of visits, playtime and snuggles with our new grand kitty!

Loving Lately

We're halfway through July and summer is flying by. Here's what I've been loving lately.

 Hubby's band doing a driveway concert.  Do you see the rainbow?

 Mourning doves in a nest we could see from our deck.  There's an adult and two babies in there.

 I made this kale salad for a family get together.

 Pool day!

 Enjoying the chiminea on a summer night (we saw fireflies too!).

I've been using this sunscreen and love how it give me a little glow-

 even under my make up.

Summer veggies (zucchini from our garden). I vegan-ized my Summer Vegetable Cobbler.

 On a quick trip to check on City Girl's apartment I noticed these beautiful wildflowers on the side of the road.

Loving Lately

Here's what I've been loving lately.

More nights on the deck.

 Seeing these cuties on a walk.

 My clematis bloomed!

 Enjoying dinners made by the kids like this Mediterranean combo and...

...this tofu curry with roasted Brussels sprouts.

 I found some new chairs (online at Target) to complete the seating out on the deck.  You can scroll back up to the top to see them all together.  I keep moving them around so the arrangement has been evolving.

 Taking some beautiful walks in the park.

 Breaking out the bikes for some rides!

 Making a batch of my Slow Cooker Taco Soup .

 Yummy summer fruits=the best!

 A new candle to enjoy.

 Made some refreshing frosé . (I tweeked my recipe to make it easier and less sweet. Blend frozen rosé with vodka,  splash of agave and frozen strawberries). The new chairs also make good foot rests.

Regrowing scallions-so easy!  What are you loving lately?

Latest Trader Joe's Finds

I finally made it to TJ's!! I hadn't been there since February and I was really missing it so College Girl and I made the trip.  In spite of the long line to get in, it was a wonderfully pleasant shopping experience (and totally worth it!).  The store was well stocked and limiting the number of shoppers made it so much nicer to shop.  

 I love trying their small batch coffees. This one was so yummy!

 College Girl picked up this granola. It's so good on smoothie bowls.

 Since we've got dairy eaters in the house, we picked up some of the TJ's Organic Plain Whole Milk Yogurt to try.  (They said it was good but not thick like Greek yogurt).

 We also picked up some whipped cream cheese and ricotta cheese (the whole milk version is a treat!).

 I got some yogurt too. I love this line of almond yogurt and mango flavor was the best I've tried!

 I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate and cherry together but I'm glad I tried this. Sooo good!

 We decided to try some IPA's as well and picked up these two.

Both are tasty and refreshing!

 We got some of their Ginger Beer for making Moscow mules.

 And....Tequila for margaritas.  Liquor stores have been closed in our state so it was nice to stock up a little.

This isn't new but I'm loving the newly designed can. It's so much easier to open!
