Summer Bucket List-How did we do?

As the sun starts setting earlier every night, it's time to see how well we did with my Summer Bucket List. 

Summer Bucket List

• go berry picking
• visit local brewery
• outdoor concert
• s’mores on the fire pit
• fresh corn
• berry or peach dessert
• visit local vineyard

• host a dinner party or happy hour

Visit a local vineyard

Visit local brewery

I wasn't sure we would get to a local vineyard but we actually got to two of them in mid-late September and it was still technically summer.

We visited this one recently and I was wowed by their flower gardens.

Mr. Click's band played here and it had beautiful views and good wine.  We never made it to a local brewery but we have plenty to visit this fall.

Host a dinner party or happy hour

Pool Days

We hosted a few Sunday Fundays and had meals at each of them so I'm counting that as "yes".  This also counts as pool days.

Plant a garden

I planted way more flower this year (than last year) and got some good results. I loved seeing the morning glories start to bloom in late summer.

I also planted my perennial garden and I've been getting more flowers as the season goes on.  We have two huge basil plants as well.

Tomato Sandwiches

This is a summer must for me with a ripe, juicy New Jersey tomato! I like mine on toast with some mayo and cheese. Lots of salt and pepper too!

Pizza on the grill

We love to make pizza during the year inside but there's something about cooking it on the grill that just makes it better.

Pick Berries

Peach or Berry Dessert

We never got to pick any berries but I did make a mixed berry crisp.

Bike Rides

I'm getting braver this year and we've taken more bike rides and also when City Girl #2 was visiting us.

Fresh corn

Mr. Click makes this corn salsa every summer and it's always a hit.

S'mores on the Firepit

City Girl #2 and I made s'mores on the firepit.

Go to the children's museum with our niece and nephews

This was their birthday gift from us and we finally got to take them (along with their parents and baby brother).  Followed by a pizza dinner of course!

Outdoor concert

We got to see Oasis at Metlife Stadium which was quite the thrill! I'll have a post on that later.

For the rest of the list: 

• Family Vacation + other trip
• Beach Days 

The family vacation was definitely on our list and we took the girls to Disney in June which was so much fun. The special trip to Kauai  happened to fall in the summer and was a bonus.

We did get one beach day in at home but we prefer our pool.  For the record, we do take daily walks by the ocean and along the boardwalk so I think they count as beach days too. 

That was a pretty busy and full summer!

{Thrifting} August Thrifting

I kept up my thrifting adventures in August.

I didn't get this shirt but I thought about it!

I sent a text of these Birks to City Girl #2 to see if she wanted them but she declined.  I thought they were such a score!

Speaking of scores--I found a brand new pair of Adidas that had to come home with me.

At the consignment shop I picked up this H & M sweater vest and checked out what it was going for online.

I did the same with these Madewell pants still selling on their website.

Here they are together.  The pants are fun!

I've been looking for a navy blazer for awhile and finally found one!   I like seeing what they are going for online.

It really elevates an outfit.

I found this LoveShackFancy lace top. I hadn't heard of this brand but it's $$$!

This cute top if from Madewell and one of my favorite brands to thrift.

I love this gold Lucky Brand top too.

I also found another pair of denim shorts.  These are Express brand.

I've been surprised at how often I've been wearing this cream mock turtleneck sweater!

I couldn't resist this adorable bunny dish.  It's not just for Easter!

Stay-cation Day-Beach, Pool, Movies & Dinner

We had a stay-cation day this summer and made it to the beach!

We had  a free weekday and decided we would make it a stay-cation. I got ready for the beach and we packed up the car.  It's a much quicker drive these days...we could walk but we had a lot of stuff.

This was our first true beach day of the season and it was a beautiful day!

Just hanging out with my book and my braids.

We like to be completely covered under the umbrellas.

My drink of choice.  

 It was getting hot so we headed home for a dip in the pool.

Later, we went to see The Fantastic Four First Steps movie and loved it.

We ended the day with dinner at a new-to-us Mexican restaurant. Yum!   That was way too many chips (if you wanted salsa and guac you got chips with each) so we took a box of them home.

{Travel} Kauai, Hawaii Days 6 & 7 - Hanalei, Waimea Canyon, Hanapepe, Kauai Coffee, Koloa/Poipu & Flight Home

Our last day in Kauai was a very full one. We were flying home that night but wanted to see more of the island and fit in as much as possible.

We attempted to walk down to the beach from our hotel but it was super steep and long, we finally gave up and turned around.  At least we could see the water! 

We checked out and headed to Hanalei for brunch at Hanalei Bread Company (another rec!).

The line was super long and we had a bit of a wait for our food but it was so good and the cafe was a really special one!

I saw another kitty friend.

We did some shopping and walked around to the back of the shopping center to see this stunning view.

A sweet couple took our photo and we took theirs too.

It was time to say Mahalo to Hanalei and the North Shore.

We put the audio tour back on and headed to Waimea Canyon on the western side of the island.

Waimea Canyon is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It's approximately ten miles long and 3000 feet deep.  The drive up to the top was the white knuckle kind!

Once we made it to the top, we parked and had a bit of a hike to the lookout. It was so incredible!

I'm so glad we got to see it!  We started heading toward the airport but still had many hours to fill so off to more sightseeing!

We stopped in the town of Hanapepe to see the Swinging Bridge.

We wouldn't have known about this landmark if we didn't have the audio tour. 

It was very swingy!  I made it across and back but was happy to be back on solid ground.

We walked through the town and sampled some cookies from Popo's Cookies.

We stopped to get a photo of this Lilo & Stitch mural.   Hanapepe is the inspiration for the town in the Lilo & Stitch movie.

Our next stop was at Kauai Coffee Company in Kalaheo.

We did a self guided walking tour.

We did a tasting and checked out the store and museum.

When there's a giant coffee cup, you get in for a photo!

More coffee beans... (am I the only one thinking of Juan Valdez?)

One last pic at the coffee company with the Kauaian mascot.

We needed to find a place for dinner and headed to the Koloa/Poipu area because we hadn't seen too much of it.

We chose Keoki's Paradise for it's open air dining and lush, tropical surroundings.

I had to have ono one more time.

We were pleasantly surprised to see some live hula dancing from our table.

We got this amazing dessert that they are famous for called Hula Pie. #ohmy

We took a walk after dinner and got to see more live hula.

It was time to head to the airport and return our rental car.   Here we are on the first flight home.  Tired but happy.

We had a quick layover in the morning and then another flight to JFK.  Phew,  this has been a doozy! Thanks for coming along on our Hawaiian adventure.
