Plant Progress

Hey, it's been a bit (thanks for checking up on me Laura!). Life has been busy and I'm not always sure I want to get back to blogging but I do miss it. I have lots to catch up on! So here goes!

First off, is my plant progress and life as a new plant mom.  In March I set out to get some cat-safe plants and see if I could keep them alive.

I found some attractive pots at the Target Dollar Spot.

I also started fertilizing the plants with these spikes (from Dollar Tree).

Here's how they are looking now.  They seem to be thriving. The Calathea on the left has been nibbled on but that's ok.

The Bromeliad also gets nibbled on but it is loving life in the bathroom.

Downstairs I have to keep the spider plant up high.  It's doing ok.

The little Pepperomia is making baby spikes with new growth and the Polka Dot plant has doubled in size since I repotted it.  

This Pepperomia is sprouting new growth too. I think I need to repot most of the plants now.

The Purple Waffle plant is looking a little sad. I'm not sure what to do with it but the Christmas Cactus is doing well.

The Rosemary needs to be moved outside if  Nessa will allow it.  Do you have any plant advice for me?

{Field Trip} Plant Shopping & Distillery Tasting

 Since I adopted my kitties last year, I had given up on having plants around the house. The few I had were toxic to cats and I was too worried having them around my babies.  I missed having plants so I started researching cat-safe plants and found quite a few of them.

Armed with my list, we headed to our local greenhouse. I was pleasantly surprised that they had so many on my list:

There are quite a few different Calathea varieties.

I definitely wanted a spider plant.

Here are the plants we came home with. I will keep you posted how it's going. I'm going to try and be a better plant mom than I've been in the past.

We had another Groupon date - this time to a distillery in Flemington, New Jersey so we headed up there after plant shopping. First we stopped for lunch at Blue Fish Grill.  I ordered the Asian Vert Salad.

  

The restaurant was in a cute shopping area so we explored a bit after lunch and stopped for some coffee at Factory Fuel.

We got to Skunktown Distillery shortly after it opened. 

We were given a short tour and then had our tasting.

We're not really "spirits" drinkers so we only sipped them but it was fun to hear about the distillery and sample a few of their award winning spirits.  The Apple Pie was our favorite!
