Easy Target Dollar Spot Fall Decorations

Happy Halloween! Of course I didn't need any new fall decor but this idea was too good to pass up.

I stole saw this idea over at Andrea's blog and loved what she did with the cute burlap bags from the Target Dollar Spot.

She stuffed them with  newspaper and used them as porch decorations.  #genius #thankyouandrea

I had seen them there but didn't know what I'd do with them. I was so happy there were some left the next time I was at Target.

The  other thing that I love about this decoration is that it can be easily folded up and stored for next year and doesn't take up much room. I'm all about downsizing and minimizing my decorations lately.

{Travel} Italy-Day 5 Cinque Terre/Portovenere

We're back to our Italian anniversary adventure! To see where we left off, click here.

 On Day 5 we woke up and had breakfast at our hotel.  Love those cappuccinos!

 My traveling outfit of the day and saying goodbye to Rome.

We were departing from Roma Osteinse train station and heading to Cinque Terre, a seaside area within Liguria comprised of five towns. Our train arrived in La Spezia and we took a taxi to Portovenere (often considered the sixth  town of Cinque Terre).

 We were greeted by postcard perfect views everywhere we looked.  The sea was dazzling!

 After checking in to our beautiful hotel (Grand Portovenere Hotel), we took a stroll down the promenade area along the sea.  We stopped for an aperitivo at one of the waterfront spots along the  quay.

 The views were incredible  everywhere we looked.

 This was one of the wedding parties we saw walking along the promenade.

 We decided to explore the quaint town of Portovenere and would check out the other villages the next day.

 Walking along the commercial part of Portovenere,  there are apartments above all of the shops.

 It was windy up here at the grotto!

The views were worth it.

 People swimming and sunning on the rocks.

 The ancient Church of San Pietro is built on the very rocky edge of Portovenere facing  the Gulf of Poets.

 This scene is like something out of a movie and it was the third bridal party we saw. The bells were ringing/playing "Here Comes The Bride" as she walked up the steps. #swoon #mamamia

 This place is truly magical!

 People really live here?

We ended the evening with a late dinner and another gorgeous view.

{Recipe} Creamy Butternut Squash Rigatoni with Broccoli

This creamy butternut squash pasta is the perfect weeknight fall meal. 

 I have been loving the Forks Over Knives magazine (it's a little pricey but there are no ads).  This was the first recipe I tested. I swapped out rigatoni for penne and upped the butternut squash to 2 pounds but other than that I followed the recipe exactly.

Creamy, delicious and bursting with flavor! Enjoy!

{Travel} Italy-Day 4 Colosseum, Palatine Hill & Roman Forum

It was Day 4 in Italy and our last day in Rome.  We had another tour booked to maximize our time there.

 We booked a Skip the  Line: Colosseum, Palatine Hill & Roman Forum tour for Friday morning.

 We were able to walk to the meeting point from our hotel (about a 25 minute walk).

 The Colosseum is another attraction that gets extremely busy so having a skip the line tour is a must if you don't want to spend your time waiting in long lines.

 This tour was just ok but still worth it to get in quickly and tour the Colosseum.

 After the Colosseum tour we had a break and met up with another tour guide.

 He walked us over to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

  The Roman Forum dates back to 500 BC.

 From this website: The Roman Forum was the scene of public meetings, law courts, and gladiatorial combats in republican times and was lined with shops and open-air markets. Under the empire, when it primarily became a centre for religious and secular spectacles and ceremonies, it was the site of many of the city’s most imposing temples and monuments.

 Palatine Hill was where the emperors lived and you can still see ruins of their impressive castles.   It also has some of the best views of Rome.

 By this point in the tour I think I was too overwhelmed with history and it was all starting to blend together in my head.

There was just so much to see and learn.

 That evening I was determined to try an aperitivo-an Italian tradition of a pre  meal drink (and snack) to whet your appetite.

 I also got to try my first Aperol Spritz.

 It was a little too sweet for me but still tasty.

We were at Da Carlos in Trevi and tried their bruschetta which was delicious!

 We walked around the city one last time (at the Spanish Steps).

On a side note, we couldn't believe how many McCafe's there were around so we stopped in one to check it out. They are a lot fancier than American McDonald's.

 Also, look at this pastry case at your typical McCafe!

We had a late dinner (not at McCafe) and soaked in the beauty of Rome one last night.

 We weren't too sad about it because we were heading to Cinque Terre in the morning.
