I've got this very quick and easy project that can be used for any season or holiday theme.
I found all of the supplies at Dollar Tree. I used plain white ceramic plates, paper napkins and Mod Podge.
First I figured out where I wanted my design on the plate.
I separated the backing from the front of the napkin.
Then I covered the front of the plate with Mod Podge using a foam brush.
I placed the napkin down where I wanted it on the plate and then covered the whole plate again with Mod Podge.
I removed the excess napkin around the edges of the plate by gently pulling it off. It can also be gently sanded off after it dries.
I added a little more napkin to the plate to extend the image. I also made a small plate with another napkin.
I let them dry overnight. I used the matte Mod Podge. *This is not food safe but you can make them with food safe Mod Podge. I'm using mine for decor only.*
I had fun using them in my Easter decor.
Have you tried this method before? I'll be looking at fancy paper napkins to try it again!
Has this ever happened to you? Your favorite jar candle's wick burns down but you're still left with a lot of wax on the sides of the jar? You can stop the tunnel effect if you catch it early enough but I didn't notice it was happening until it was too late.
Of course it was a spendy Anthropologie candle and I wanted to figure out if I could save it. I used this post for reference and it was so helpful. I wasn't sure it would work for me but I gave it a go.
1)Add about 2 inches of water to a pan with a steamer. When the water is boiling, add the steamer insert. Place candle in steamer.
2) While the wax is melting, gather your supplies. I had some old skewers that I broke in half, some popsicle sticks(wasn't sure what I would need) and luckily I found some wicks from CG2's candle making days. If you don't have wicks, you can use other household items to make a wick. You can also order a candle kit here. A paper plate, plastic knife and fork are also useful to have.
3) Keep on eye on the candle as it melts. It should take about 15 minutes to fully melt.
4) You can use a plastic knife to loosen the wax on the sides of the jar. Be careful as it can splash out. Hot wax!
5) Remove the old wick. I found a plastic fork worked best for this. When the wax is fully melted. Turn off the heat.
6) Now it's time to add the wicks. I found the skewers worked best for this. Wrap the end of the wick around the skewer and gently place the wick into the hot wax. Try and position the wick where you want it. I pressed the metal wick bottom down with a plastic knife. I decided to make my candle a 4-wick.
7) Once your wicks are in place. Leave the jar in the steamer (with heat off) until it cools for approximately 2 hours. Then place in the refrigerator for an hour.
8) Remove the skewers and trim the wicks to 1/4 inch. I used my cat nail clippers but cuticle scissors were suggested.
9) Light the candle (my wick placement is a little wonky but it works).
10) I love that it's now a 4 wick candle and I've doubled the life of this jar candle.
11) I've been enjoying it so much and still have lots of burn time left!
It's a $5 shelf/organizer and I thought it was so cute when I saw it on TikTok.
The supplies needed are two (or three) of the mini wooden crates and two of the side planks--all found at DT. I also used hot glue, a foam brush and some stain that I had on hand. I glued it together and tried to use a staple gun to secure it but mine wasn't working that well and I ran out of staples. So far, the hot glue is holding up well.
I stained it and let it dry.
I knew I wanted to use it on my vanity in the bathroom. There is never enough space on there.
It gives me more vertical storage without taking up much counter space. Not bad for $5 and about 15 minutes.
I think it's so cute and it's been working out well to hold my skin care items. What do you think?
Here's what I've been enjoying and doing lately--fall edition.
I treated myself to a new pumpkin mug for the season.
We made the spaghetti recipe from The Bear show (if you know, you know).
I planted a sweet potato plant in a pot because I liked the leaves. It must have thrived because look at all of these potatoes. I was shocked!! They were tasty too!
I got my toes done in this pretty fall color.
Another "TikTok made me do it", I made this pumpkin out of a toilet paper roll and a cereal box.
I refuse to buy mums too early this year because they don't last so I made some fall dried flower, berry and evergreen baskets out of things I found in the yard. I also got this corny (nutty?) flag for the porch.
We haven't seen a toad in our yard for awhile. I was so happy we had one visiting!
My morning glories never grew this year so I've enjoyed seeing my neighbors' amazing plant around their mailbox when I walk by.
I had a cozy fall movie night watching Practical Magic.

I made my first DIY bleach dyed t-shirt. The stencil is a wood decoration from Dollar Tree.
This was the basic tutorial I used. A sunny day helps speed the process!
This time I hit Dollar Tree for my supplies, I also picked up a few decorations. That Christmas truck sign and those sweater ornaments had to come home with me!
This is the tutorial I used and she'll explain it much better than I do.
Supplies needed: socks, holiday hat/stocking with faux fur trim, filling, styrofoam/ping pong balls, river rocks/dried rice/beans, felt/fabric scraps, pom poms, rubber bands, twine/ribbon/cord, clear elastics & hot glue. All of these items can be found at Dollar Tree.
I started with one sock for the body of the gnome. I used some river rocks to weigh him down at the bottom and then stuffed him with fiber fill that I had on hand. You can also use stuffing from an old pillow, plastic bags or dried beans/rice for the body.
When I had him at height I wanted, I secured the top with a rubber band and cut off the excess sock. It helps to then tie a ribbon or twine around the rubber band for added security.
Remove the faux fur from the hat (or stocking). I couldn't find my seam ripper but this little pair of scissors did the trick.
I covered a styrofoam ball with some scrap felt that I had and hot glued it to the top of the gnome. For the beard, I cut a piece of the faux fur and notched out a square for the nose.
Hot glue the beard right below the nose. You can separate it a bit to make a mustache too.
I was able to use the top of the hat for his hat and tucked under the ends, then hot glued it over the nose and in the back (the sides get glued with the arms). I added a little white pom pom after removing the fur pom pom from the hat (I thought it looked too big).
I made arms with some leftover hat fabric by creating two little tubes and filling them with stuffing. I made the hands with round pieces of felt that I also stuffed then tied off with a clear elastic.
The arms get glued under the hat and the hands get glued to the arms then tied with some cord. I added a berry sprig to the hat's pom pom and tied that off with some cord.
The gnome looks cute just like this.
Legs can be added just like the arms for a sitting gnome.
I already had this boot ornament and it worked perfectly for him. I didn't attach the boots because I still want the option of using them as an ornament.
I found this pair at Hobby Lobby and decided to make a girl gnome too.
I started her the same way by filling up a sock and tying it off,
I needed another hat and I also picked up a stocking for the white trim.
This time I made the nose by tying off a bit of the stuffing in the body. I secured it with an elastic and some twine.
While I was making her hat, I also added some white fuzzy trim to Mr. Gnome's hat to finish it off.
I made two braids out of the faux fur and glued them under her hat.
I also made her an apron with leftover hat fabric and some white trim.
