{Travel} Beach Getaway

This was my motto all week during our recent beach getaway.
We had a little window of opportunity to go to the beach and of course we took it.  Here's a recap of our visit with lots of photos.
Wildwood, New Jersey boardwalk at night.

We couldn't wait to get a smoothie bowl at Aloha Smoothie.
 Relaxing in the mornings...
Fruit in a mason jar at breakfast.
 Hitting the beach.

 These lovelies.
 Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk.

We like this beach town too but I think we go to their boardwalk pretty much for The Bashful Banana restaurant.  First we split the homemade hummus, veggie and bagel chip platter and then we shared an order of Tofu & Peanut noodles.
But it's really all about the Banana Whip (it's just whipped bananas and it's the creamiest, dreamiest treat!!).   My toppings were peanut butter, pretzels and chocolate chips.
 More boardwalk...
 More coffee...
 More seagulls and stunning skies.
 Summer beach read.

Breakfast in Cape May, New Jersey.
Feeling very envious of the gorgeous hydrangeas in Cape May.
They have such beautiful gardens and homes there.
Happy Hour back at the house.
 Chasing sunsets...
 Checking out the marina.
Bike riding on the boardwalk in the morning.  Clouds in my coffee.

Lunching in Avalon, New Jersey...with a view.
Yum!
{sigh}

{Get Organized} Bonus Drawers

Can't stop, won't stop the organizing! Since my last post about Organizing the Junk Drawer: Dollar Store Style, I've been on a bit of roll.  No drawer is safe around me.
I originally planned to organize this mishmash of a drawer in the original post but I didn't have the right organizers to fit in it. It's very narrow and holds a variety of plastic utensils, chopsticks, straws, etc.  The organizer that I had in there would always slip out of the grooves holding it in place.
It was frustrating to fix it, then open the drawer later and find it messed up again. grrr! #firstworldproblems
I had to test out a few configurations but I figured out what worked best and now I have another beautifully organized drawer!  If you're wondering, the rubber ducky is a tea infuser of Miss High School's.
This drawer was already pretty well organized (sorry, no before picture).  I wasn't planning on redoing it but I had some extra organizers left over so I reconfigured it and it's better than ever.  This is probably the most used 'junk' drawer in the kitchen and I'm happy to report that we've been keeping it nice and neat.

{Cocktails} Fresh Watermelon Margaritas For a Crowd

We served these Fresh Watermelon "Grad-uitas" at the College Graduation Party and they were a perfect summer cocktail.

I love frozen margaritas but I knew they'd be difficult with a large crowd.  Freshly pureed watermelon sounded pretty delish too (thanks for the idea Jessica!) so I went with that.   I prepped the watermelon ahead of time and mixed in the alcohol right before the party.

Fresh Watermelon Margaritas
{Makes 10 servings}
10-12 pound watermelon
1 cup of tequila (more or less to taste)
1/2- 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup Triple Sec (or any orange flavored liquor)
Lime for rimming the glasses
To make:
Scoop out watermelon and puree in batches to make 10 cups of puree. I used my Vitamix so it was very smooth.   At this point you can refrigerate the pureed watermelon and mix up the margaritas at party time or proceed with recipe if you are serving immediately.
**edit*I just remembered that I also made a batch of frozen watermelon cubes so our drinks wouldn't be diluted!!**
Combine watermelon puree with tequila, lime juice and Triple Sec, adjust to taste.  I also made a non alcoholic batch of watermelon and lime juice that could be mixed with seltzer.
Cut some fresh limes up and rub a cut lime around the rim of the glass, dip glass in Kosher salt.  Pour margarita into glass and enjoy with a wedge of lime.

{Entertaining} College Graduation Party

A few weeks ago we celebrated College Girl's graduation with a low key family party.
This is the photo we used for the invitations (too much personal info on them to share the actual invites).
We had the perfect weather for an indoor/(mostly) outdoor event.
Of course I have lots of pre-party photos and not many actual party photos.
We rehung some of the outdoor lights from her high school graduation party on the "treehouse" part of the deck.
I didn't have much of a theme but I was thinking black, white and burlap for the color scheme.  I bought a bunch of predominantly white flowers with hints of green and these bright red berries. They were all from Produce Junction for $17!
I found the 2016 tags in the Target Dollar bins.  (Also used on this Nutella Lovers' Graduation Gift). I already had the white tablecloths and burlap runners from hosting 30+ people for Thanksgiving in 2014.  I rolled out black chalkboard runners under the burlap on some of the tables-also from the Tar-jay.
We used the hot tub for our bar out on the deck which always works out well and keeps people out of the kitchen. yay!  I added little paper doilies under the bouquets for a sweet, feminine touch.
We had little graduation cap straw toppers on black and white striped straws.  (My very chic friend "G" and also the grad's godmother).
This jar was from her last graduation party and a great thrift store score.
I wrapped various mason jars and vases with burlap ribbon, white ribbon and twine for the flowers. (Like her other party, see photo below). The "Class of 2016" flags are stickers (also from Target) that I stuck on either side of a bamboo skewer and popped in the vase.
I had so many bouquets that I was able to have them both indoors and out.

I kept the decor simple and bought two dozen black and white balloons for some visual pop, hoping they wouldn't literally POP.
The only other decoration I purchased was this black and white tassel banner for the dining room.
Party people!
The tiki torches were up and we borrowed a bocce ball set from our friends for some outdoor fun.
The signature cocktail was Fresh Watermelon Gradu-itas.   #ijustthoughtofthat  Recipe will be up soon.
I got to use my Ballard Designs inspired Beverage Tags.
The menu was Tex-Mex inspired and sadly this is the only photo I snapped.
Menu
Black Bean Taco Bar & Fixin's
Homemade Guacamole & Pico de Gallo with Chips
Best Vegan Kale Caesar Salad
Chick-Fil-A Nuggets
Tomato Pie
So glad that people were enjoying the deck!
One more food photo....this amazing vegan Brownie Cheesecake (from a bakery).  I guess I was just having too much fun to take more photos.
