Disney Trip '11 {Day 7} Our Last Day

 Another beautiful morning in Disney and today there were balloons over the horizon.

 We were up early and packed so we had time to walk over to the Polynesian for breakfast.

 We passed the Grand Floridian's Wedding Pavilion on our walk over.

 I'd only seen it from the monorail so it was cool to be so close to it.

We love having breakfast at The Kona Cafe in The Polynesian.

 It's all good!  The fruit plate with banana bread is a favorite of my older daughter and I tried it this year too.

 Cheese omelet with home fries and home made biscuit.

 Their specialty-Tonga Toast.

Sourdough bread stuffed with bananas, deep fried and covered in cinnamon sugar.

 We burned some of those calories on our way back to the Grand Floridian and stopped for some photos.

 It was still pretty quiet over there.

 We saw so many of these little lizards all week....more than we've ever seen in Disney.

It must be their season?

 We had some more time before our Magical Express Bus was scheduled to pick us up so we decided to go over to Magic Kingdom for a bit.

 We took the Main Street Railroad around the park.

 The park was pretty empty too. You can see how we seem to have the whole train to ourselves.

Disney Trip '11 {Day 6} Eating Our Way Around the World In Epcot

 It was our last full day in Disney and I was determined to get a family photo. This is it..the only one!! Oh well, at least I got ONE!

 "Someone" was holding my camera while I was in the ladies room and took a few fun shots.

  I like it!

 We planned to eat work our way around World Showcase in Epcot and started our feast in the UK with an order of fish & chips.

 I had to stop in the UK's garden. I just love it!

 I snapped a pic of the girls in France.

 While in France, do as the French and have a glass of champagne.

 Then we made a stop in Morocco for some amazing hummus and pita bread.  The serving of hummus was so huge that we grabbed a giant pretzel in Germany to finish it up with. Hot soft pretzels dipped in hummus=YUM!

 I'm pretty sure we stopped in Norway for a cloudberry cone too.

 The hubs was in a heated drum-off in the African Outpost with this adorable little guy.

The girls got henna tattoos in Morocco and modeled them for me.

We ended our nosh around the world in Mexico with some chips and guacamole.

This is a shot from our last trip.

Since we shared every snack between the four of us, it didn't feel like we were totally overdoing it (just mildly overdoing it).

Of course we had dinner later in Japan. 

We love ending our week in Epcot and starting it in Magic Kingdom.

Diaper Cake

Our first diaper cake.

 I say "our" because my older daughter actually put it together and I was her helper.

We were having a little book club baby shower for one of our members, so it was the perfect time to try to make one.

Here's what we used to make it. 

2 packs of newborn diaper (30/each)

2 baby bottles - one 8 oz and one 4 oz

clear tiny hair elastics

regular rubber bands
double sided tape
decorative ribbon
cardboard for the base
silk flowers (optional)

candy (I used pretzel M & M's)

I followed this tutorial

and used these adorable newborn diapers.

Roll each diaper from the open end and secure with a clear hair elastic.

Once they are all rolled up, you can assemble the 'cake'.

A baby bottle can go in the center of the cake and we filled it with pretzel M & M's as a sweet treat for the mom-to-be.

Start by attaching the rolled diapers around the baby bottle and securing with a rubber band.

This would be your first layer and then you add more diapers around that layer to make it larger.

We decided to switch out the smaller baby bottle for the bottom layer because it worked better for us. Fill that up with M & M's too.

This is the 4 ounce baby bottle surrounded by the diapers, making up the bottom layer.

The second and third layers were constructed the same way with the 8 ounce bottle in the center and then placed on top of the bottom layer.

Wrap ribbon around the the layers to hide the rubber bands.

I covered some cardboard in wrapping paper to make the cake plate.

 I had some silk sunflowers left over from this party so we used them to embellish the cake.

To secure the cake to the cardboard base, we used double sided tape.

We finished off with a few more flowers. You can also leave the top bottle empty and use it like a vase for flowers coming out of the top.

I loved it for our fall baby shower.

Obviously I couldn't leave well enough alone, and added a little bow and some more greenery at the top as well as some baby blocks that I had from some thrifting adventure.

 We set it on a cake pedestal for it's final presentation at the shower.

The diapers can all be used after the cake is disassembled so it's decorative and practical gift.
