Still Hanging Around

A few weeks ago this arrived in our mailbox.  Exciting, right?
It's part of this kit that my daughter received for Christmas.
When you're ready, you send the enclosed postcard to get your prepaid caterpillars and food. This is what they look like when you open the box.  You just need to put them in a safe place out of direct sunlight.

They grow quickly!
7-10 days later, they are huge!
When the caterpillars are ready, they attach to the top and hang down, head first to start making their chysalides.
When they are all chysalides, it's time to move them to their habitat.  This was a little tricky. You have to carefully move them over, and pin the little paper that they are barely attached to onto the mesh sides of the habitat, and wait ...

We're still waiting.....really hoping for some butterflies soon!

My daughters just "grew" butterflies in their Kindergarten class using this same basket thingy. They set them free yesterday. Why didn't we do cool stuff like that in school? Fun!
