Trader Joe's Organic Rainbow Carrots

I have to give a shout out to one of our new favorite things--Trader Joe's and The Organic Carrots of Many Colors. 

 These would make a terrific treat for the Easter Bunny on Saturday night.  I'm just sayin'.

I had been buying these carrots to make pretty veggie noodles with the Veggetti or Julienne Peeler. Pretty noodles they were and they were tasty too but they didn't taste much different than regular cooked carrots.   It wasn't until we ran out of baby carrots for dipping that they really knocked us out. I cut up some raw rainbow carrots and tried them with hummus.  They are so much tastier than regular baby carrots.   Now I buy two bags at a time when I go to TJ's.  They're not only pretty, but delicious!  Give 'em a try!

{Holiday Decorating} Tea Cups & Easter Eggs

I stumbled on this decorating idea by accident.  I had pulled out some of my tea cup collection to display in the dining room and when I started decorating for Easter, I found that my calligraphy eggs looked really cute in the tea cups!

I've been collecting tea cups for years but I haven't displayed them for awhile.

My mother in law got me the pink tea cup in London last year and it's my newest one.

These tea cup colors are really perfect for Easter.

The floral patterns also work.

It was fun to see my tea cup collection again and it makes me want to host a tea party!

The Look For Less - Summer Straw Tote

When we were visiting College Girl last weekend for her big runway show, we took a Target run and I spotted this straw tote bag on the shelves.

I snapped a quick pic with my Iphone, thinking it looked a bit like one I made last summer.

Voila! Now, mine doesn't have pleather handles and the pom poms are slightly different than the Target tote but it comes pretty darn close.  The Target tote sells for $34.99 and I DIY'd a straw tote from Ikea that was only $3.99.  

So if you want a fun, summer tote and don't want to spend a lot of cash, you can decorate your very own with a little acrylic paint and yarn.  Sweet!

{Family} College Girl's Runway Show

Last weekend was College Girl's senior runway show.  Senior?! I know, can you believe it?! Each year the designers have more responsibility and pieces to design and by senior year they have to do a full collection.  It doesn't count as classwork either so it's on top of their course load.

To add to the stress, the show was being held a month earlier this year.   I don't know how they do it, but the students always pull off an amazing show.  

We were able to spend two nights visiting her college town and came up early so we could help her out with all of the last minute errands and jobs.  She had her own banner hanging up on campus to advertise the show (hers is the white one).

We got to see the work rooms and watch the designers finishing up their pieces.  Here was CG's inspiration board for her collection (these are posted along the hallway).

A look at the workroom.  They are surrounded by windows and get a lot of beautiful light in here. They were all pretty calm if you ask me.  I got to help out a little and pressed some of her garments.

Here she's hemming some chiffon pants.  The second part of this involves that pink lighter.  First you slice, then you burn to keep the ends from fraying.

Miss High School came up with my mother in law and we met up for dinner the night of the show.

After dinner we went over to the venue (transformed field house).   We had really good seats this year (perks of being a senior parent).

I took a peek back stage, her garments are hung and waiting to be rocked down the runway. You can see a bit of the model makeup in this shot too.  No detail is overlooked, the designers plan it all...from hair to make up to shoes and accessories.

There were lots of press there! Exciting!

The seniors end the show so there was a lot of anticipation leading up to their collections.

Her models came out individually but I'm showing them as a group so you can see the entire collection. I wish I could have picked up the colors a little better, the pale pink pieces look white in my photos.

She got some instant pics at the show and I snapped this pic of them when we were out celebrating her great night.  It was another whirlwind college weekend and I'm sure going to miss them when she graduates.  I'm trying to soak it all in before that day.  It has flown by!
