Holiday Open House - Other Trees and Decor

Each of my girls has their own tree in their bedroom.   They each have a tote of their own ornaments too.
Big Sis has a 6 ft pre-lit (well mostly).

Some of her ornaments

Tink (and the other side says "nice")

Little Sis has a 4 ft pre lit Martha Stewart tree with colored lights. She's ready for a taller tree next year.

She's got a lot of ornaments too.

Our last and final tree (#7) is this tabletop tree from my mom. It's big enough to put on the floor.

Some of the other decorations that I put up every year...like this Santa board with pegs.
A feather wreath on our coat closet door.

Our Santa "Got Cookies" plate and "Got Milk" jug.

Santa photos from our childhood.

\
My almost a collection of nutcrackers.
The kitchen wreath that I decorated with cinnamon/applesauce ornaments, vintage cookie cutters, cinnamon sticks and fabric ties.

More peppermint decor above the microwave.

A small garland and mistletoe over the sink.
Snow man platter and some holiday china.

Our Christmas village in the snow.

The jar snow family that I made a long time ago.

Sparkly mini wreaths adorn hubby's office door.

And this soft nativity I got when my kids were little.
Are you all decorated and ready to go?

Easy "Gingerbread" Houses

These are the easiest gingerbread houses I've ever made.
The idea is from Martha Stewart and I just follower her directions.  Use a serrated knife to cut a graham cracker into two squares. Saw off the top corners of another cracker to make a peaked roof. Be gentle because you can break them.

Assemble your cottage on an overturned paper plate using royal icing.  Put some icing on the bottom of the cracker and 'glue' it the plate. Use a small spice jar to prop it up.

Glue the side edges on and let dry. Remove spice jar. This dries fairly quickly. Attach the roof pieces and let dry. Then you are ready to decorate.  Use more royal icing to attach the decorations.

I like to use these cute ginger people cookies.

We also raided the leftover Halloween candy.

Life cereal makes a good thatched roof.

Here are the creations that my kids made. The plates look even better if sprinkled with mini marshmallows or coconut for snow.  You can make a whole village in about an hour.
These are great for a party too as seen here.

Holiday Open House - Entry Tree

My mom offered us this tree when she moved into her new place. It's huge and very heavy but it fits perfectly in our entryway.  I usually leave it unadorned because it's prelit with white lights and covered in pine cones so it looks pretty as is (see above).

Our Christmas wrapping this year under the tree (gifts for family and friends). I have an enormous roll of brown shiny paper so I coordinate with that every year.  This year I'm using red ribbon and the Ikea tags I bought here.  The tree skirt is from Kmart at the end of last season. It's by Jaclyn Smith.
Here is last year's wrapping.
(and no tree skirt)

Here's the tree last year, you can get a better idea of how tall it is.
I decorated the tree this year with my snowy collection of ornaments.  Anything white or snow themed. I have had these dainty Moravian stars for years.

My talented aunt crocheted all of these delicate snowflake ornaments.
She also created these sparkly beaded snowflakes. (I said she was talented, didn't I?)

One of my favorite homemade snowflakes.

Another homemade ornament made out of salt dough.

One year we painted these craft store wood snowflakes with white paint, sprinkled them with glitter and attached wire to the back with hot glue. Easy!

A sweet little mitten ornament.

Now all decorated!
We also have a real tree, a Disney tree and a white tree and maybe a few more...

Holiday Open House - White Tree

I picked up this white tree at an after Christmas sale a few years ago. It must have been a display tree because it came with some blue ribbons and ornaments.  I just added some white lights and a few more boxes of blue ornaments.
This tree is in the living room which is painted a blueish green.
I stacked up my thrift store blocks in front of it.  The colors seem to go nicely with the tree.  If you're keeping track, this is tree #3.  Our other trees are here and here.   I may have a few more for you...
