{Travel} Washington, DC Weekend - Day 1

We took an impromptu trip to Washington, D.C. over Memorial Day weekend. (The former) Miss High School was on her school's senior trip and we didn't have any plans so off we went.

I found a great hotel deal on Travelzoo.com (not sponsored) that we couldn't pass up.  We realized we hadn't been to DC in 4 years! Crazy!

Does anyone else sing "Riding On The Metro" by Berlin when they're on the Metro or is it just me?  In my head of course.

After checking in, we headed straight to the Capitol Mall, getting off the Metro at the Smithsonian stop.

We walked directly to our favorite restaurant find along the Capitol Mall area.  We discovered this place on our last trip.  The Sculpture Garden Pavillion Cafe at the National Gallery of Art has lots of options for a quick, fresh meal, it's a great stop along the way.  It has indoor and outdoor seating but it was hot already so we chose the cool indoor AC.

After you place your order, you get a beeper and find a table.  Some things never change. The photo on the left is from this trip and on the right is from four years ago. Same chips, same phone (?) (he was downloading a cool app for the landmarks) and I think he ordered the same flatbread (and same guy of course).

I ordered this noodle bowl that was crispy and crunchy with just enough spicy. Yum!

After lunch we strolled around the sculpture garden, trying to remember what was there last time and what was new. I still love this typewrite eraser!

Since we've been to most of the Smithsonian museums, we decided to just go to one this trip. We chose the National Museum of American History.

This Batmobile was new to us.  Michael Keaton is still my favorite Batman.

The American Presidency exhibit is always interesting.

I'm always fascinated by the First Ladies' dress exhibit too.  I didn't take any photos of that this time.

After the museum we headed toward the Lincoln Memorial.  Things appear a lot closer to each other than they actually are but we were up for a good walk.

With views like this, who can complain?

We wanted to see the Vietnam Memorial and knew it was around the same area as the Lincoln Memorial. We lucked out and passed by one of the entrances.

It's really sobering to see how many names there are on the wall.  It felt very sacred as we walked through. There were so many veterans in town for the big bike ride.

We made it to the Lincoln Memorial! Always a must see for Mr. Click.

There were high schoolers taking their prom pics in front of the monument.  What an awesome place for prom pics!

By this time we were hot, tired, hungry and ready for dinner.  We walked about a mile to Founding Farmers restaurant, another find from a previous trip.

The wait was long but we snagged seats at the bar which made the wait much nicer.

Dinner was fish & chips for him and many vegetable mushroom loaf for me. So good! We übered back to the hotel and passed out!

{The Abode} Annual Porch Refresh

It seems like every Spring we need to refresh the porch a bit. Winter takes it's toll on it and it's usually in need of some TLC.

Spring has also left it's mark on the porch and furniture..lots of pollen!

We also have lots of green mold. Lovely!

While we're waiting for the power washers to arrive, I zhuzhed it up a bit with a new (yet very old) ladder. I told my friend that I was looking for an old ladder for photo shoots and she had one for me. Score!

 I think it makes a nice display shelf on the porch too.  I grabbed a few things to place on the ladder rungs.  I'm sure I'll be tweaking this as summer progresses.

 The chairs got cleaned and we added a new rug from Target. The original rug I bought from Michael's was too big.  The outdoor pillows came from Michael's.  It's amazing what some flowers and greenery can do to perk up a space.  I brought a plant outside that hasn't been great inside. We'll see how it fares.

 I need to fill this ladder up with more plants and flowers.

 A new watering can in a bright, fun color (from Ikea) always freshens up the space.

 That green tea tin makes a great fresh cut flower holder, I just added a small mason jar with water to hold the stems.  I love the color!

Once it gets power washed and put back together, it's going to be even more spiffy!

Four On Friday

This week flew by even though short weeks usually don't. We're barreling toward graduation day tomorrow and my head is spinning. Luckily the grad party is a few weeks away but there's still lots to do!  

On a blogging note: I'm also having issues with Blogger and I'm not getting your comments sent to my email. I like replying to each comment through email so that's been a bit of a challenge.  I'm hoping the tweaks that Blogger says they are doing to their email system will fix this issue soon. Until then, I'm trying my best to reply back to all of my comments by cutting and pasting them.

Here's what I've been....

1)Contemplating...which dress to wear to graduation. #3 is out because I just wore it to the Baccalaureate dinner so it's down to #1 & #2 or maybe something else??

 2. Hanging around with...running errands with Miss H/S before she left for her senior trip to Disney.  Yes, Starbucks had no coffee (their grinder had just broken).

 3.Admiring...my clean fridge. I gave it a good clean out and scrub before we went away.

 4. Reminiscing about...our trip to Washington DC last weekend. More about that in an upcoming post or two. It was such a fun trip!
