{Travel} Day/Night 3 Edinburgh -An Evening of Ghosts & Ghouls

Happy Monday and I'm back with more of our Edinburgh adventures, if you need to catch up, start here.

College Girl had arrived from Dublin and after we got her settled in the airbnb we showed her around our neighborhood.  We had to show her Edinburgh Castle of course.

You can even see out to sea from the top of the grounds of the castle.

It was late afternoon/early evening and we headed to dinner.

She liked the sound of the place we had gone the night before so we returned to Paradise Palm for dinner.

The food was just as good the second night and we got to try some new items on the menu. 

That night we went on a Ghosts and Ghouls Tour of Edinburgh.   From the website "the night begins with a walking tour of the darker closes and wynds of Edinburgh, before journeying into the haunted Blair Street Underground Vaults. Finally we'll retire to a candlelit cellar for a dram of whisky and an evening of storytelling."  We met up at Mercat Cross.

Of course Mr. Click was chosen as one of the volunteers as she demonstrated some torture and lynching of two prisoners.

We visited some famous haunted Edinburgh landmarks and then went underground in to the Blair Street Vaults for more chilling tales.

These underground vaults are a series of chambers formed by the nineteen arches of the South Bridge.  They were used for years to house taverns, workshops for cobblers and other tradesman and storage space for merchants.  In later years they were inhabited by criminals.

The night ended in an underground tavern where we could try a dram of whisky.

Fred told us some stories of ghost sightings in the vaults. The stories were good, the whisky, not so much.

{Travel} Day 3 - Morning in Edinburgh and College Girl Arrives!

We woke up on day three and this view from our lovely Edinburgh flat.  I loved watching the morning activities of the neighborhood.

We were super excited because College Girl was arriving that day!

We had the morning to keep ourselves occupied so of course we went back to the castle. I mean, when there's a castle in your backyard it's hard to stay away!

It was a really beautiful sunny day in Edinburgh.

Heading to lunch...we walked everywhere in the city.

Their bus system is supposed to be excellent but we didn't need to take one while we were there.

We stopped for lunch at Nova Pizza Vegetarian Kitchen.  It was the cutest place and had a huge selection of vegan options (it was World Vegan Day too).  It also had "regular" pizza for Mr. Click so we were both happy campers!

It was finally time to go pick up our daughter (we took a cab to the airport).

We were there early and spotted our first Christmas Starbucks cups.

{Shopping} Quickest Trader Joe's Trip Ever

I'm taking a short break from our Edinburgh/Dublin adventures but they will be back shortly!  City Girl was home for minute last weekend and we had some extra time between taking her out to dinner and to the train station so we stopped at Trader Joe's for a quick visit.  The hubs gave us 10 minutes!?!  I didn't have a list or even really know what I needed but I wasn't passing up a trip to TJ's.  Challenge accepted!! I picked up some of my regular TJ faves that I've shown before on the blog but here are the new things that I found.

 A new (to me) flavor of kombucha.   This one was good too. I think mango is my favorite though.

 Holiday candle alert. I spied this new candle scent in the cleaning aisle. Of course I grabbed it because their holiday candles sell out in record time.  It smells like a Christmas tree!

These aren't new to me or the blog but when I see them, I have to grab them. The Peppermint Joe-Joe's sell out quickly. I stuck mine in the freezer to save them for the holidays.  I noticed that they have a gluten free version on sale as well. What have you found at TJ's lately?

{Travel} Day/Night 2 Edinburgh Castle & Greyfriar's Kirkyard

Our first full day in Edinburgh and we were excited to see the city.   College Girl was arriving the next day so we took a quick look around and tried our best to stay awake and get used to the new time zone.  If you missed Day 1, you can find it here.

 We strolled up to Edinburgh Castle from our flat. It's so impressive up close!

 The view is no less stunning from the castle.

We explored Princes Street Park and a bit of Princes Street (shopping area) in New Town as well.

 We went to Palm Paradise for a late lunch/early dinner.

 The food was by Lucky Pig and we tried three of their vegan options.

We stopped by the most famous statue in Edinburgh-Greyfriar's Bobby.  It's said to be good luck to rub his nose.  

He's a Skye Terrier that stood guard over his owner's grave for 14 years.

It was Halloween so where else should we visit but a creepy ancient cemetery?

Greyfriar's Kirkyard is the graveyard that surrounds Greyfriar's Kirk and it's been around since the 16th century.

 The sun went down pretty early and we got out of there before it got too dark.

 A warm cappuccino was a welcome treat on a chilly night.

We went out to a wine bar to keep ourselves awake as long as possible but we only made it until about 10pm!
