Drying & Storing Home Grown Chili Peppers

This year we harvested quite a few hot peppers and wanted to dry them to use later.

There are several ways to dry out peppers: hanging on a string (takes longer), dehydrator(don't have one) and oven drying. BINGO!

I cut the peppers in half lengthwise (wearing gloves) and also cut the tops off. I kept the seeds in mine but you can remove them.  I set them on a baking sheet with a grill rack on top (you could also use parchment paper).  Bake them for 1-2 hours at  150ºF with the door slightly open to allow moisture to escape.  Check the peppers every 30 minutes and rotate them.

Peppers are completely dry when brittle.

I crushed mine up but you can also grind into powder.

Store in an airtight container and use as you would crushed red pepper flakes.

{Get Thrifty} Thrift Shopping Lately-Fashion Edition

Here are some things I've thrifted lately and some from my previous {Get Thrifty} posts.   This is how I've been wearing them.

This shirt is so light and cool. I love the pom pom detail on the sleeve.

Kimonos are great for throwing on in the a/c but cool enough when you're back outside again.

I wasn't sure about the color of this Universal Thread top but I've been loving it.

These pants were gifted, not thrifted but totally my color and style!

I can never have too many black t-shirts. I like the sleeve detail on this Gap tee.  Paired with my Costco shorts here.

The Old Navy pink gingham in action during disc golf.

It's hard to see the wording on my WEEKEND top but I've been loving this cozy sweatshirt.

Apparently the kitty does too!

These Chiccos pants are from awhile ago but I just re-discovered them!

This kimono was a great thrift score and I've gotten a lot of wear out of it!

{The Abode} Upgrading Our Dining & Living Room Floors

 This is a project that I've wanted to tackle since we moved into our home (16 years ago!).  Our dining and living rooms both had sad grey wall to wall carpeting, that only got worse as the years went on.

Here's the dining room before.

Because of the open floor plan of our home, each of these rooms is adjacent to wood flooring (spot the kitty!). Why they had carpeting I'll never know.

Here's the living room before.  We put area rugs in each of the rooms to try and down play the hideous carpeting.  

I never wanted to get new carpeting because I only wanted wood floors.  This is a good shot of how the living room adjoins the foyer and the family room.   

The floors had to acclimate to our home for a week before they could be installed. Willow is helping.  We had to empty out the rooms of all small furniture and decor.

Our installer worked so quickly that I barely had time to snap some "in progress" photos.

They match the kitchen floors pretty well!

Here's the living room after. We're still playing around with furniture placement so it's not finished but I'm LOVING the  new floors!

One more view.  It's still in progress but we're getting things back to normal. I don't  know what took us so long to do this!  It was not as costly as we thought it would be and it makes such a difference! What do you think?
