We took a trip to the Barnes Foundation a few weekends ago. We've been wanting to check it out for awhile.
It was a beautiful sunny day in Philly. This is a painting of the collector, Albert Barnes. He was a successful chemist and inventor and that's how he amassed his fortune and acquire his amazing collection.
You can read more about him here.
The original gallery was adjacent to his home in Merion, Pennsylvania and he decided exactly where and how each piece of art would be displayed. The current gallery is now in Philadelphia but the placement of objects is exactly how it was at his home gallery.
The paintings are mixed in with the furniture and other objects.
There are no placards next to the pieces of artwork, like in most museums (but there were guides in each room that had all of the information about each piece).
The collection is huge and impressive. It's definitely worth the trip to check it out!
After the museum, we stopped for lunch at Pizzeria Vetri.
I had the Harvest that had delicata and butternut squash, walnut romesco, maple spiced pepitas, charred kale and microgreens. Yum-o!
We walked around the city for a bit and found this new-ish mural. It was painted on a huge canvas by the community before being attached to the building and sealed.
We stopped in at the Whole Foods and they had a Goldie in the store!
I saved some room for a Turkish coffee tahina shake. They are not be missed!
