{Thrifting} July Thrifting

I had a few thrifting trips in July and here's what I found.
I wouldn't normally get towels at the thrift store but these Martha Stewart brand towels were both new with tags and they match our bathmat almost exactly! I'd been looking for some crocheted doilies so this set of two was a good find.
I got this cute striped denim skirt at the consignment shop.
I had broken two of my favorite mugs so I was on the hunt for new mugs.  Sadly I also broke the Feline Cozy one before I even got use it (I was having bad mug karma!).
This was totally unexpected. We saw a thrift store on Kauai so I just had to check it out. Of course I couldn't bring home much (carry-on only) but I found a book about Kauai with beautiful photos and this little wooden trivet (not really sure what it is but I liked it).
On another thrifting trip I was back on the mug hunt.
Success!! I found some new mugs, a basket and a bracelet.
With an added kitty bonus! The thrift store is part of an animal rescue so there are usually kitties to visit.
I found this lavender top at the consignment shop.
At another thrift store I found these little signs.
And a new with tags bucket hat. I was looking for a bucket hat for the Oasis concert and now I'm set!

Costco Hydrangeas & Holiday Birthday Party

Did you know you can order bulk flowers from Costco?  I didn't know about them until I saw some Tiktoks about them.

We were hosting a birthday party for Mr. Click so I thought it was a good time to try them out.  You can pick your delivery date so I picked a date a few days before I needed them (just in case they weren't on time).  They arrived on that day looking like this-- a little smushed together but ok.
I followed the advice I also found on Tiktok for the biggest, longest lasting blooms. I immediately put them in a tub of cool water for an hour.  This helped them perk up a lot.
I then shook off the excess water, cut the stems on a diagonal and dipped them in alum powder  (found it in the spice aisle at the supermarket) before putting them in a big bucket of water until I was ready to arrange them.
I got so many bouquets and arrangements out of 2 dozen stems.  I added some flags since we were celebrating the birthday over 4th of July weekend.
On the day of the party I had both indoor and outdoor arrangements.
I made my first balloon arch/swag from Dollar Tree balloons and balloon tape. I was pretty proud of it!
We set up the food inside. The menu was a baked potato bar with toppings, New England clam chowder and veggie chili.  City Girl #1 also made our  favorite Vegan Kale Caesar Salad.
Some shots of the pool area before the party.
My thrifted tray from this post held more hydrangeas and sparklers.
The calm before the party.
We set up some snacks outside on the tables and used our wedding cocktail napkins as basket liners.
My outfit for the pool party.  Thrifted shorts from here and swim suit from here.
City Girl #2 made the birthday boy's favorite White Chocolate Chip Fruit Tart.  He always asks for this instead of a birthday  cake.
The leftover summer fruit made a delicious fruit salad too.
We also made a batch of "slutty brownies" (chocolate chip cookie dough layered under Oreos and brownie mix).   So good!
The hydrangeas still looked great a few days later and I made one big bouquet of what was left and gave them to my neighbor because we were leaving for vacation.  She loved them!

Starting My Perennial Garden & How It's Going

I (mostly) waited a year before starting a garden in our new home. I wanted to see what, if any flowers we had in the beds to start with (we had none!).  We have one larger area in the front but it's got a few trees in it so there isn't a lot of room for flowers.  I planted some anyway because it definitely needs some color.

I ordered the Summer Dreams Pre-Planned Garden from High Country Gardens.  I wanted flowers that worked together, needed full sun, were critter resistant and were low maintenance.  It came with with 11 plants and we planted everything over Memorial Day weekend.

This little area was starting to really show progress in June.  In it, we have:

1)Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass
2) Purple Coneflower
3) Fireworks Golden Rod
4)Wicita Mountains Form Wild Bergamot
Here's how it's looking now.  I've probably planted them too close together but that's a problem for later.
I'm just happy (and kind of surprised) that they are doing so well!

The bees are loving it too.

This reed grass is getting really tall.
In another area of that bed, we have Gold Sturm Black Eyed Susan and Blue Fortune Hummingbird Mint.
Black Eyed Susans are one of my favorite summer flowers.
I'm still waiting for a hummingbird!

In another bed we planted Crystal Peak White Obedient Plant and Purple Dome New England Aster.
The Obedient Plant has really thrived.
The asters have been a little slower but they are starting to look promising.  Two of the plants that I ordered didn't survive so the company is replacing them and sending them in September when they should be planted.
I did plant some hydrangeas last year that we got as a gift from friends. This one is looking so healthy!
One of them didn't survive because it got too much sun so I planted a second one in our side yard garden to replace it.   We also have a Knock Out Rose bush that we're hoping will thrive.   I'm excited to see how it all looks this fall and next summer. It's a start!

{Travel} Disney/Orlando Trip 2025 - The Conference

After a jam packed four days in Disney, it was time for the girls to head home and for us to head to Mr. Click's conference in Orlando.  We had lunch in Disney Springs before going to our next hotel.  Bye (for now) Disney!

We were back at JW Marriott , Orland Grand Lakes, like last year's trip.  There was a reception the first night at the hotel.
I did some hydrating at the pool and lazy river the next day.
Our time at the conference was pretty similar to last year. I had the days to myself to explore the hotel...
...and visit the spa.   I took a yoga class and spent time at this lovely pool.
I had the most amazing avocado toast at the spa restaurant for lunch. Mr. Click met me there when he was done for the day.
The view from our room.
It always makes me feel better to get pictures like this from my cat sitter.
The hotel had this cool outdoor double sided fireplace. Not that we needed it, it was HOT!
I was ready to hit up the pool on my last full day at the resort.
It was so nice to have some downtime after the busy Disney days.
I could get used to this!
There was a big party on the last night of the conference and it was movie themed. The ballroom was transformed into different movie sections. This one was Saturday Night Fever with a dj and a Tony Manero dancer getting everyone up and dancing on the dance floor.
You could pose in a DeLorean with Doc and Marty.
Wearing these pants again. Love them!
This was the entrance to the party and there was a red carpet with faux-tographers taking our pictures.  There was also a James Bond section and a Wizard of Oz section.  We didn't love the food so we went to dinner at one of the hotel restaurants and had an early night to pack and get ready for the trip home.
Much needed coffee for our early pick up to the airport. What a great trip but there's no place like home! Thanks for coming along!!
