4th of July Weekend

First off, a little blog business. Since Google has terminated Feedburner for email subscribers, I've switched my email service over to follow.it.  If you want to be alerted when a new post comes out, please subscribe via email by filling out the email subscription box on the right hand side of my blog.  If you are already a subscriber, you may need to re-subscribe with the new service.

Onto the holiday weekend! Both daughters were here and we took them out to celebrate.

We'd been wanting to take them to this neat little bar ever since we were introduced to it.
Now that things are opened up again and College Girl is legal, we were able to finally take them there.   Cheers!
On Saturday we got ready for a family get together at my sister's house.
I made Oh She Glows Roasted Vegetable Salad.  It looked pretty close to the original in the cookbook.
It was raining most of the day so we had the party in the garage.
My sister sets the prettiest table!
It was so good to be together again!
We ended  the night with a huge assortment of fun sparklers.
On Sunday we worked on the deck and hung our new solar lights up.  By "we", I mean Mr. Click. I supervised.
We had grilled fish (or tofu) tacos with all the fixin's and sangria.
It was so nice to enjoy the "new" deck.
That sangria was so tasty!
We had  heavely grilled peaches and ice cream for dessert.
Our neighbors put on the most amazing fireworks display and we have the best seat in our driveway.

Our hometown parade was on Monday and we started the morning with brunch at my mother in law's house.  College Girl made beautiful homemade babka.
Some of the parade  squad...
...and more of the parade squad.

What a fun and festive weekend!  Don't forget to subscribe via email!

{The Abode} Deck Overhaul

Our deck was in sad shape and needed some repairs and re-staining.  We got estimates to have it completely replaced with  composite decking but the cost was astronomical and didn't seem practical right now.

It might not look that awful from this photo but it was in pretty bad shape. We decided to remove our old hot tub and that really opened up the space.
But it also looked awful where the hot tub used to be.
It was starting to look better with new boards.
By this point they had power washed the entire deck and replaced most of the bad boards
They removed the old steps. Yikes! I didn't realize how high  up the deck was until the steps were gone!
There was a break in the repairs so we set up some furniture one weekend and enjoyed our almost completed deck.
Finally seeing the new steps come together!
We chose the color  Pine Cone by Sherwin Williams for the new stain. I love it
We added a sectional and a new umbrella.
You can see the rug we got at Costco under the sectional.  It  feels like a whole new space and we still have lots of room out there.

I realized I didn't take a current photo of the "tree house" part of the deck but here's a photo from last summer and it hasn't changed much. We replaced the electric string lights with solar string lights and they are working out well.

You can see all of our deck transformations over the years here.

{Travel}One Nighters in Virginia & Boston

June was a busy travel month for us. We visited College Girl in early June and had some other trips as well (not including our day at the beach during our staycation).

We headed to Virginia for a gig with Mr. Click's work band.
It was in a brewery in Virginia.
The place was so cool!

Some friends from the area came out to see the band and it was such a fun day!
The next morning was Father's Day and we had brunch at Silver Diner.
A quick trip to Home Depot (it can't be all glitz and glamour!) before we headed  home.
This dad wanted pizza for dinner and of course I obliged.
The following weekend we were on our way back to Boston to pick up College Girl.  We were only going up for one night but hit some spots we've been meaning to visit.

The first one was The Traveler Restaurant. We would see the huge yellow Food & Books sign from the highway on our drives and we were intrigued.  We stopped for lunch this time.

It's a book themed restaurant and every entree comes with a free (used) book. The menu was book themed too.  It was like eating in a library/used book store. We loved it!
After checking in at the hotel, we headed over to our girl's apartment to meet her for dinner.
We stopped in at Bukowski Tavern after dinner.  It's another place that we'd been wanting to check out.
Their concept includes "surly yet fun service".
We noticed engraved mugs hanging over the bar and found out you can get your own mug through a mug club card.  The rules are pretty funny and can be read here.
We only had one night but enjoyed walking around beautiful Boston in June.
We also got some ice cream at Emack & Bolio's.  They had a few vegan flavors. Yay!
Boston is just so pretty!
In the morning we grabbed a quick breakfast at Pavement before heading home with our girl.  I think we fit a lot into our short trips.

{Photography}Sweetest Maternity Shoot

During our staycation week I had a photoshoot with this sweet couple.

We have a special connection as the mama-to-be's mom used to babysit my oldest and she was just a little girl when I last saw her.

I was honored to shoot their baby shower and then their maternity photos.
We had the perfect evening for a photo shoot!
They met in Las Vegas and share a love of their hockey team so the jerseys were a fun addition to the shoot.

How cute are they?!
