For my Eat Pray Love book club get together I made gelato. In case you haven't read the book, the writer eats a lot of gelato in Italy so I thought it would be an appropriate treat.
Combine 1 cup of heavy cream, 2 cups of whole milk and 1/2 cup of sugar in a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. (about 5 minutes)* I used a little less sugar because a few of the reviews said that it was too sweet.*
Add in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/2 cup of chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella). Stir until the Nutella melts and it is all combined. Chill mixture completely before putting it in your icecream maker.
We are loving this machine. All you have to do is keep the freezer bowl in your freezer and then it's always ready to make icecream. This was the first time we tried a custard-like icecream (cooking the eggs with the milk and cream).
I made it ahead of time to make sure it would work in our machine and it did!
