{Wordless Wednesday} 05.30.18

Peering off the side of the deck I saw this beautiful nest. I have a birds eye view of it and you know I'll be watching from a safe distance.

{Entertaining} Grad Party Sneak Peek

It's T-minus 5 days until Miss High School graduates and we're in full on party prep around here.  We've got a sneak peek of the color scheme of the party. It all started with the little snack cups at the top of the photo (found in the Target Dollar Spot). They became her color inspiration for the rest of the party.  The party will have an 80's color theme without being an actual 80's themed party.
We found the straws and napkins at Ikea. The graduation cap bubbles are from Dollar Tree and the candy is from Oriental Trading Co. More to come...

Four On Friday

How is it Friday already? I don't know but I'll take it! Here's what I've been...

1)Admiring...this cute fairy house in the library garden (made out of a tree stump!).
2) Fan-girling over....Hubs and Daughter got to meet Henry Winkler at Wizard World(a local comic-con).  I love him as Barry Zuckerkorn in Arrested Development and we've been watching him and his co-horts in Better Late Than Never.
3)Enjoying... my only clematis bloom, but isn't she a beaut?
4)Getting used to...my new hair cut! I love the shorter length and new high/low lights but everything looks even better with a cute Snapchat filter!
Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend! We're off on a little road trip--follow on me on Instagram to see where we go!

{Recipe} Soy Curl Fajitas

I was excited to find some Butler Soy Curls at the Pop Up Vegan Flea Market but I wasn't sure what to make with them.
Soy curls are a meat alternative made from non-GMO soybeans.   Most of the recipes I found used them as a chicken replacement so I decided to make "Chicken" Fajitas.
This is what they look like right out of the bag (in their dried form).
They have to be hydrated in hot water for about 10 minutes before use.( I used half of the bag of soy curls.) Now they really look like chicken strips!
After I drained the soy curls, I added them to a pan with 2 sliced bell peppers and half of an onion.  I cooked them on medium high, adding some No-Chicken Veggie broth to cook them and keep them from sticking to the pan. I also added poultry seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, dash of chili powder & liquid aminos.
To serve: I warmed up some corn tortillas and added some Chao cheese, scallions and a squeeze of fresh lime.
The second batch got some red cabbage too. Delish!

Açai Bowls at Costco

I had just read an article about the amazing açai bowls that Costco was serving at their snack bars and was in total shock. What? How? I did a quick search for which Costcos had the bowls and found out that they were only on the West Coast. whomp whomp.

We happened to be headed to Costco a few days later and I was telling Mr. Click about the mythical açai bowls that our Costco would probably never get.
Well wouldn't you know as we were checking out I saw THIS!  There they were! Cue the angels! I sprinted got out of line to go check it out and of course I had to order one.
The bowl is generously sized and comes covered in fresh (not frozen) fruit and granola.  It comes in at 330 calories which isn't too bad.  What do you think? Are you as excited as I am about the açai bowls at Costco?

{Shopping} Even More Trader Joe's Finds!

I know that I love seeing what other people find and buy at their Trader Joe's so I'm sharing a few more of my finds and favorites.
Their tea selection is pretty good and tends to change with the seasons. I can usually always find Earl Grey but the Spiced Chai isn't always there.  Their Mango Black  tea is another favorite of ours.
Bagels! The artisan kettle boiled bagels taste like they just came out of a bagel shop.
I needed a new serum because my last bottle of TJ's serum fell and broke all over the sink. :(   The Antioxidant Facial Serum another product in their Nourish line.
You know I love their baking products and here's another favorite. The organic coconut sugar is great in baked goods (and my Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal too).
Have you found any good TJ's finds lately?Pin It

Four On Friday

Cheers to the (almost) weekend my friends! Do you have anything fun planned? We're in graduation party prep mode so hopefully we'll make some progress on that this weekend.

Here's what I've been....
1)Amazed at...this photo Miss High School captured of a rainbow and lightning!
 2. Eating...a big bowl of goodness: cauliflower rice, baked marinated tofu, greens, shredded carrots, grape tomatoes, pineapple, marinated chickpea salad, red cabbage, kimchi and hummus.
 3. Not getting done...planting my annuals. We've had so much rain this week that I hadn't been able to plant them but I did finally get them done last night!
4. Proud of...voting with this guy!

{Get Thrifty} Thursday

It felt good to get back to the thrift store (this time, Goodwill) and to actually find some good pieces.
 Here's my most recent haul:
1) Jones of New York dress
2)White Mountain sandals (look like Birkenstocks!)
3) Banana Republic peplum tank
4) Old Navy striped tank
5) Pizza t-shirt
6) Heavy duty stainless steel bowl
7) White planter
8) Air pop popcorn maker
I think I made out really well!
Yes, I got the t-shirt from this past week's Four On Friday. It's fun and I'll probably only wear it for bed but I love the stripes on the sleeves.
Here's the dress. It's a possibility for Miss High School's graduation.
I've already tried out the popcorn popper and the bowl.  Both are awesome! I've worn the sandals and the blue & white tank top too. The planter is holding a real fern out on the deck. It's perfect.
Have you been thrifting lately?

{Entertaining} Book Club for Sourdough

Recently I hosted book club and the book I had chosen was Sourdough by Robin Sloan.  From the author's website: "This book is about Lois Cleary, a talented young programmer from Michigan who follows a job to California, only to be drawn into the weird world of food that waits there. It's about work, eating, robots and microbes, independence and ambition."
We take turns hosting book club and the host chooses the book, the food and the entire theme of the night.  I try and find something from the book to serve but I usually have other snacks to munch on too.
For a little fun, I made up name tags for the girls.  In the book, Lois attends a few "Lois Club" meetings and these were some of the nicknames. She became Lois The Baker
My letter board got in on the fun too.
The book starts out with Lois ordering take out from a restaurant with no store front but excellent food. She always orders a spicy soup so I did my best to come up with one by making Kimchi Vegetable Soup.  Everyone liked it even though it was a bit spicy!
Wine is the most  an important part of book club and I always start out with a few bottle but everyone brings a bottle as well.  Sometimes there's a signature cocktail that is from the book but this time I couldn't think of one.  (The employees at Lois' company drink something called a 'slurry' for sustenance but it didn't sound that good to me).
Of course I had to serve some sourdough bread. I thought about making my own but the book puts a lot of pressure on sourdough bread baking so I went the safe route and bought mine. I toasted it up on the panini maker with a little olive oil.  We had beautiful weather and sat out on the deck for most of book club. It was a great night!
Are you in a book club? What are you reading these days?

Scenes from Prom #2 (2018)

In my last Four on Friday post I gave you a little sneak peek of Miss High School's second and final prom but today I'm giving you all of the details.
At the salon...
The shoes...we searched high and low for these!
The flowers and nails (those are KISS artificial nails all from the same pack-pastel, metallic and glitter!).
She wanted sunflowers with pops of green.
She definitely had a vision for her look after we found this amazing Monique Lhuillier ball gown (for 75% off!).  Look, it has pockets!
Showing off her sassy side.
The velvet choker was a last minute switch and it really made the whole outfit come together.
The weather wasn't great but at least it had stopped raining for photos.  I love seeing all of the dress choices.
This one reminds me of a painting.
And she's off!!  Do you remember your prom?
