{Get Thrifty} Thursday


This time last week I was on my way to Boston to visit College Girl and now it  seems like a dream!   I was planning to post this last Thursday but it didn't happen so here's my latest thrift haul.

Goodwill had lots of top options for me.
This Dry-Tec aqua work out top  is such a pretty color.

It looks different in this photo and it's more blue than green.

I love a good flannel and give me all of the plaid.
This Simply Vera Wang shirt is so soft.
It's got nice features like the hem around the bottom.
I got this grey top to throw over my yoga clothes but I really like wearing it outside of yoga too.
This Banana Republic sweater has a split back and is cute over a tank top.
I wore it on a recent warm-ish day.
I need to highlight my new Sam Edelman booties too. They're not  from a thrift store but were on clearance at Nordstrom Rack.
Last  but not least is this distressed grey tank.
It's another yoga hit (also my new camo leggings are from TJ Maxx).

{Recipe} Sunflower Seed Ranch Dressing-Oil Free

I whip up this creamy dressing whenever I get a craving for ranch dressing.  It's super easy and only needs a blender to mix it up.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup raw unsalted sunflower seeds, soaked in boiling water for at least an hour(this in optional but definitely do if you  don't have a high speed  blender)
1/2 cup plant milk of choice (I use almond)
1 TBS lemon juice
2 TBS chopped red onion (or scallion)
1 large clove of  garlic
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp dried dill
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp onion powder
salt & pepper to taste
To make:
  • Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
  • It thickens in the refrigerator so you can add some water to thin it out to pour  over salad. 
  • I like it as dip with my Everything Bagel Tofu or some cauliflower wings.
  • Keeps in the fridge for up to a week.

{Shopping} Latest Trader Joe's Finds

Here are some new (to me) items that I found on my last Trader Joe's trip.
This Organic Chiapas Mexico Small  Lot Coffee looked good to me. With notes of caramel,  dark chocolate and dried fruit.  The package is so pretty too. I'm having some right now and it's yummy!
The coffee would go really well with these Crumpets. I had seen these many times at TJ's but didn't  know they were vegan until I saw them pop up in vegan Trader  Joe's Facebook group.   They remind me of a cross between a pancake and an English muffin. They are good toasted with some jam! 
I love this Picton  Bay Sauvignon Blanc! 
I was  on the hunt for this Vegan Chicken-LESS Seasoning Salt and stoked when I found it. I need to try it on something soon and give you a review! 
I may have shown these Fire Roasted Diced Green Chiles in a previous haul but I haven't bought them in awhile and feel they should be a pantry staple for us.

{Field Trip} The Barnes Foundation

We took a trip to the Barnes Foundation a few weekends ago.   We've been wanting to check it out for awhile.
It was a beautiful sunny day in Philly.
This is a painting of the collector, Albert Barnes.  He was a successful chemist and inventor and that's how he amassed his fortune and acquire his amazing collection.

The original gallery was adjacent to his home in Merion, Pennsylvania and he decided exactly where and how each piece of art would be displayed.
The current gallery is now in Philadelphia but the placement of objects is exactly how it was at his home gallery.
The paintings are mixed in with the furniture and other objects.
There are no placards next to the pieces of artwork, like in most museums (but there were guides in each room that had all of the information about each  piece).
The collection is huge and impressive.  It's definitely worth the trip to check it out!
After the museum, we stopped for lunch at  Pizzeria Vetri.
I had the Harvest that had delicata and butternut squash, walnut romesco,  maple spiced pepitas, charred kale and microgreens. Yum-o!
We walked around the city for a bit and found this new-ish mural. It was painted on a huge canvas by the community before being attached to the building and sealed.
We stopped in at the Whole Foods and they had a Goldie in the store!
I saved some room for a Turkish coffee tahina shake. They are not be missed!

{Beauty} Trying out Nail Wraps

I got a set of these heat activated nail wraps for Christmas from City Girl. 
I've seen them on her and they always look so nice and I was excited to try them out.
 The "before" of my nails --not too pretty.
 I gathered the supplies they suggest: nail  polish remover, nail file, cuticle stick and a hair dryer.  I followed the directions on the package. The steps are fairly easy and straight forward.
1) Clean nails with nail polish and gently push back cuticle.
2) Pick the size wrap for you nail.
3) Heat the wrap for 30 seconds or so and remove from the backing.
4) Apply to nail and give it another shot of the hair dryer. It becomes very pliable and soft when heated.
5) Smooth out the wrap on the nail.
6) Lightly file the excess wrap off the end of the nail and you're done!
 They're not perfect but I was pretty happy with how they turned out for my first time.
The set comes with enough wraps to do an entire mani/pedi and costs about $10. I did my toes too but I didn't get a photo. To remove the wraps, gently warm with a hair dryer and peel off.  This is the brand I used.  Have you tried nail wraps?

{Recipe} Everything Bagel Tofu

I am pretty obsessed with Everything Bagel Seasoning, so much so, that I buy it at Costco now in the bulk size.   
When I saw this recipe, I knew I had to give it a try.  Crispy sticks of tofu, coated in a crunchy seasoned topping.  Perfect for dipping!
Ingredients:
14 oz package extra firm tofu
Batter:
2 TBS flour
2 TBS cornstarch
2 tsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/3 cup water
Breading:
1/4 cup breadcrumbs (I used panko)
3 TBS Everything Bagel Seasoning (I get mine at Costco)

To make:
  • Press tofu a tofu press or with some paper towels and heavy pans to get out as much of the liquid as possible.
  • Heat oven to 400 F.  Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
    • Mix the batter ingredients in a shallow bowl.

    • Mix the bread crumbs and bagel seasoning in another shallow bowl.


    • After the tofu has been pressed, cut into 1/2 inch fingers.


    • Dip fingers into the batter and then into the breading mixture, place on prepared baking sheet.
    • Spray with a little cooking spray (optional).


    • Bake at 400F for 35 minutes or until golden brown.  They are best right out of the oven but can be stored in an air tight container in the fridge for 5-7 days.

    I served mine with some vegan ranch on the side.
