{Entertaining} Book Club for Sourdough

Recently I hosted book club and the book I had chosen was Sourdough by Robin Sloan.  From the author's website: "This book is about Lois Cleary, a talented young programmer from Michigan who follows a job to California, only to be drawn into the weird world of food that waits there. It's about work, eating, robots and microbes, independence and ambition."
We take turns hosting book club and the host chooses the book, the food and the entire theme of the night.  I try and find something from the book to serve but I usually have other snacks to munch on too.
For a little fun, I made up name tags for the girls.  In the book, Lois attends a few "Lois Club" meetings and these were some of the nicknames. She became Lois The Baker
My letter board got in on the fun too.
The book starts out with Lois ordering take out from a restaurant with no store front but excellent food. She always orders a spicy soup so I did my best to come up with one by making Kimchi Vegetable Soup.  Everyone liked it even though it was a bit spicy!
Wine is the most  an important part of book club and I always start out with a few bottle but everyone brings a bottle as well.  Sometimes there's a signature cocktail that is from the book but this time I couldn't think of one.  (The employees at Lois' company drink something called a 'slurry' for sustenance but it didn't sound that good to me).
Of course I had to serve some sourdough bread. I thought about making my own but the book puts a lot of pressure on sourdough bread baking so I went the safe route and bought mine. I toasted it up on the panini maker with a little olive oil.  We had beautiful weather and sat out on the deck for most of book club. It was a great night!
Are you in a book club? What are you reading these days?

You are so creative! I love the name tag idea and how close you themed your food with the book. The soup and sourdough bread look yummy!

How fun to take turns hosting a book club. I love how you're putting the effort with the food and name tags. I'm not in a book club and not read this book yet it's in my kind of hub, food! I also love the pictures so much. Thank you for sharing and have a good weekend.
