We were up bright and early on day 2 and had this beautiful view.
We also had some visitors on our patio.
Hawaiian Geese also called "Nene" are the official state birds of Hawaii.
Coffee with a view!
We were up so early that nothing was open yet but we took a little walk around the resort.
We purchased an audio tour of the island from Gypsy Tours. We picked this one because we could start from any location on the island. We decided to just drive around and see as much as possible on the tour and stop when we wanted to explore.
Our first stop was the Hanalei Bay Lookout and very close to the hotel. It was cloudy but still impressive.
The tour was so helpful because it would warn you if there was a one way bridge and give you local driving etiquette for crossing it too. It was raining but it rains pretty much every day in Kauai.
We stopped off in Hanalei at Wishing Well Coffee. It had a laid back, surfer type vibe and great coffee!
There were so many beautiful beaches along the way.
We stopped at Hanalei Pier which has a public beach and (more!) beautiful views.
We walked all the way out for the best views. We made it to Ha'ena State Park where the highway ends (we'd be back later) and turned around. You can't go any further than that because the road does not connect the two sides of the island.
We made our way back to Hanalei and had lunch at Kalypso Bar & Grill.
We walked around the Hanalei Shopping Center and checked out some of the stores.
Of course I had to stop and see the cute kitties that were all over the shopping center. They were well taken care of.
We stopped at the Opaeka'a Falls. They were stunning. There was a rainbow reflection in the water but it's hard to see it in a photo.
The rescue was closed but you could still read about the wildlife there plus plenty of loud chickens and roosters for good measure!
We had to try the Shave Ice at Wailua Shave Ice. I got the triple coconut.
We stopped in Kapaa and went to a fruit stand to get a white pineapple. They are Sugarloaf Pineapples and were recommended for their sweetness. Yes, it was a $40 pineapple!
Another spot that was recommended was Java Kai and it was a good pick! We needed lots of coffee to combat the jet lag!
We came back to the hotel and got ready to go to dinner after a short rest.
Bar Acuda tapas restaurant in Hanalei came highly recommended. Their reservations fill up instantly as they go online so we missed out on snagging one. We took our chances and went when they opened to get a bar seat (the good thing about jetlag and being early!). We lucked out and got seats. Our meal started with the brioche rolls with hazelnut romesco butter and smoked sea salt.
Another Ono fresh catch with saffron and pea couscous
Pan seared broccoli with toasted almonds and marinated fresh mozzarella cheese. Everything was amazing!
It looks like we had it all to ourselves and I think we did.

Wow Heather, it is so beautiful there in Hawaii. You did so much on that day and what a great start. I can't wait to hear more about the trip!
So dreamy.
I was going to ask... how is the coffee? I love the Hawaiian coffee I order.
Where would you get the flowers for your hair?
