{Day Tripping}Valley Forge National Historical Park

I wanted to check out this park for a possible photo shoot so Mr. Click tagged along and we made a day of it.  He's a history buff so this was right up his alley.
I don't think I'd ever been there before, what took me so long?
Valley Forge was the site of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army.
This is the National Memorial Arch and quite impressive in person.
The park has lots of walking trails and so much to see and do.
We decided to head out on foot after circling the park by car one time to get the lay of the land.  It is huge!
It was a grey and misty day but the views were still beautiful.  There are over 30 miles of walking/biking trails.  You can do a self guided cell phone tour or take one of the other tours offered. There's even a trolley car tour.
If you're an American history buff, you will love this place.  Here was a reproduction of the soldiers' cabins that were stationed here.
Some of them had up to six bunks in them and they did not feel weather-tight at all.
Had to see a canon or two.
Here's how Valley Forge came to be the winter headquarters for General George Washington and his troops.
 More cabins...
I was intrigued by this field bake oven.
This fortress area was so cool too.
There were underground tunnels leading in and out of it.
We will be going back to see more of the park and learn some more of our history.
After the park we went to King of Prussia Mall, another sight to behold.  Lunch for me was a veggie sushi burrito.  Mr. Click got a grilled cheese and tots.
I couldn't resist all of this patriotic goodness at Ballard Designs.  If you're in the Philadelphia area, I highly recommend a visit to Valley Forge National Historical Park and if you have some oodles of time for shopping, check out the King of Prussia Mall too!
Let's Keep In Touch!
