{Recipe} Puppy Chow for People

Also known as Monkey Munch, this is a yummy snack and makes a lot.  We made it a few times last summer for swim meets and it was devoured at every meet.  The girls didn't swim this summer and so we hadn't made any until "this one" was going away to cheer camp.

We thought it would be a great treat to share in the cabin.
Yummmm...peanut butter.
Melt 1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter, 6 ounces of chocolate chips and 1 cup of creamy peanut butter in a sauce pan.
Stir until it is just melted.
Put one box of Crispix or Chex cereal into a large bowl and pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal.

Hello!!
Stir gently to coat all of the cereal with chocolately-peanut buttery-goodness.

Like this.  Let cool.

After it has cooled, pour powdered sugar (approx 1/2 - 1 pound) over the cereal.
Stir gently. Add more powdered sugar as needed (this is to keep the mix from sticking together so be generous).  If it hasn't cooled enough, the sugar will melt.

You could also pour the chocolate/cereal into a bag of powdered sugar and shake it up but I do it this way and it works just fine.
Keep stirring until all of the chocolate is covered.
Make sure it is completley cooled and coated before storing.  Keep in an airtight container.

It's addictive, you've been warned!

Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I'm always amazed at "timing" or "coincidences". This is my daughter's all-time favorite snack and I've NEVER made it. Apparently she had it at her sorority home while in college. She's coming home this weekend for a visit and guess what? Now that I've seen your post and recipe, she will have a very nice surprise waiting for her. SO GLAD YOU POSTED THIS!

(((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

Yep, we called them Muddy Buddies, and they were always hoovered up by whatever combination of children we had running through the yard. I kinda miss those....maybe I should teach Savannah to make them this weekend.

well there goes all my "eat-healthy-today" resolutions. I will be thinking about this recipe all day, so I should probably just make it now and get it over with. :)

It is that! I just love it, we shake it up in a brown paper bag. I also love the same stuff made up with coconut and Karo syrup..it doesn't last long either! :D

We LOVE this snack at our house and we call it People Chow too. Just looks too much like Puppy Chow not to. It's very addictive and never lasts long around the house. We also make one that uses Quaker Oat Squares and cranberries (a little healthier and just as yummy). Makes me think I should post that one. Can I share a link to yours?

Yummmm...I'm making my version of this tonight for the drive-in tomorrow night.
We don't have Chex here so I'm using mini shredded wheat.

Thanks for sharing! I make this at Christmas time and call it Reindeer Food...I easily gain 5 lbs. on the stuff! Your recipe makes me want to make it a little earlier this year, as in TOMORROW!

This is my all time favorite thing! I've been known to make it for dinner. I just make enough for one serving. I don't use butter though and it tastes just as yummy!

If you haven't already, try it with Milk Chocolate chips, YUM!

Mmmm, this is one of my favorite treats and I just made it this evening! For someone with peanut allergies, butterscotch chips are perfect for adding the little something I was missing with having to just use chocolate chips.
