Updating our Abode - The Kitchen (Part 1)

Here was the kitchen right before we moved in. That's our realtor checking out the light switch.  That bright fluorescent fixture worked!  Woo hoo!

You can see the black floral 80's border(uggh!) but it was also on top of wallpaper. Double Uggh!!  The white fridge went adios with the previous owners.
We were thrilled with the size of the kitchen, the hardwood floors and this huge bay window but we wanted to change a few things.
First we changed out the cabinet hardware from shiny brass to rustic wrought iron.  We've been trying to  de-brassify the house ever since.  You can sort of see the countertops and brass hardware upclose here. Looks like I'm about to make some clam chowder while someone was carving this super cool pumpkin.
The wall paper and border came down! Yes, we bought the table and chairs from the sellers. Not really our style but it's solid wood and goes with the kitchen so it's fine for right now.

Looking better already.
Those white laminate countertops with the wood trim had to go. So did the aging black dishwasher. Buh Bye!
They're gone!
 To be continued...

did you change the flourescent light yourself? was it hard? i need to see the updates. my kitchen has one and i HATE it. if it's easy to do, i'd like to try to do it myself but i fear i may need to hire someone.

Hi Samantha!! We did change it out ourselves and we're not that handy. The only problem was that it wasn't right over the island so we had to make another hole when we put in the chandelier. I will get the update post done soon. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!!!

Hi Heather! Thanks for dropping by my blog. :) You've already made some great changes to your kitchen! Every little detail makes a huge difference. Which countertop material did you go with? I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your kitchen renovations! :)

I know this post is old but this reminded me of my own Part 1 Kitchen remodel: http://www.lifewithgq.com/2011/12/kitchen-remodel-part-1/. If you find yourself over there, skip the boring read and just skim through the photos. Never did get to a part two but you inspire me! :-)
